Arrow titanium system...love it !

So glad I bought this new system for my AT. It's beautifully made, lovely touch the way the Arrow logo is etched into the sleeve, sounds like a proper bike now even tho' the standard pipe was pretty good. Yes, not the cheapest but IMO, the best looking pipe available by far. The way it sits high up near the rear bodywork with the smallest gap, so so cool. At tickover, it burbles nicely, but blip the throttle and it barks like a guard dog looking to rip your leg off !

Service from Jonathan at Rugged Roads was exemplary, can't recommend them highly enough.

Looks lovely.

I notice Jonathan has a black heel plate on his system - is that an optional extra? Does the pipe get hot near your foot without it?

Yes, there's a carbon heel plate available. I prefer the looks of the pipe without it, that is until I melt my boot/trousers on it !!

I have a clip on face ache, too big for this site to load. Not that said clips sound does it justice anyway.....

I have ordered the same system. Did you do an ECU remap?

I have the same question, what did you do to adjust the fuel?

The CRF runs quite lean as standard to meet EU emissions regulations, so putting a full bore system on is only going to make matters worse....... Now, all of the exhaust manufacturers - Arrow, Termignoni, Remus, and Akrapovic, will tell you the same - their full systems can be bolted straight on without requiring any adjustment to the fuelling. This is correct, but IMHO is not going to be beneficial to the longevity of your valves - and pretty much every tuning specialist will be able to show you why once they hook your bike up for analysis.

So, and this is just my own opinion here - if you are keeping the stock headers, and just replacing the silencer with an aftermarket one, then you don't need to adjust anything.

If you are replacing the full system, then at a minimum I would recommend fitting a BoosterPlug which as well as smoothing out the fuelling will also be beneficial in enriching the mixture slightly.

Next up is to go down the route of generic remapping using the soon to be released Dynojet Power Commander V - or to go the full hog and have a custom map flashed to your ECU.

This is what I've had done, as well as Davy - by Geoff at Hilltop Motorcycles. He's a bit clever in that he partitions your ECU and moves the OE Honda map into one partition, and then after analysis and numerous dyno runs, writes his own custom map specific to your bike to the other partition of the ECU.

Does it make a difference - **** YES - it's a different bike - smoother, much more responsive, and torque much further down the scale

So to summarise:
  • All Africa Twins will benefit having a BoosterPlug fitted - even with the stock system
  • Replacing just the silencer - you don't NEED to do anything
  • Replacing the full system - definitely need to do something, either BoosterPlug, Dynojet, or full custom Re-Map, if you want your engine to remain healthy longterm
