Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports

Because the current Africa Twin isnt adventurous enough for them, Honda decided to reveal their Africa Twin Adventure Sports at the Osaka Motorcycle Show. Its not the first time a manufacturer came out with a bike that was supposed to do the job it claims to and then later release an R or Adventure model. BMW has done it with the R1200GS and R1200GS Adventure model and Honda wont be the last.

As cool as Adventure Sports sounds, the actual changes made to it are quite minimal. Honda has kept the body similar to the style weve all come to love but added the high-performance Termignoni exhaust for a dirt bike like sound. The AT Adventure Sports also received a huge bash plate, MX-style seat, and a smaller luggage rack with a tubular metal structure. Or course, rounding out the changes is a set of knobbies. As for the basics, the engine and chassis are the same and so is most of the bodywork.

If Honda does come out with the AT Adventure Sports, we could be waiting 12 months or more for one to hit showrooms floors. Would you be willing to pay for one?

So what is Honda Adventure Sports bike ?

Regular AT + Termignoni exhaust, proper bash plate and off-road tires (e.g. TKC 80).

Anybody can add those to his/her new AT and have a Honda concept bike. Wow

What on earth are Honda up to? Have the accountants been unleashed in the design dept? Where are the tubeless rims, uprated suspension, power sockets and cruise control? By the time this comes out 90% of standard AT's are going to be better equipped, so no I would not be willing to pay for one.

And the seat... that ugly motocross-style seat is included.

The exhaust looks out of place; I think I'm use to looking at the larger size can on the stock bike. Bet it sounds good though!

Thats the Concept Bike built by Honda Italy and presented at EICMA last November for the CRF1000 Africa Twin launch - they built this using the pre-production black 'camo' bike that was shown at EICMA in 2014 as the 'True Adventure'

Changes over the standard bike are:
  • One Piece Seat
  • Steel Rear Rack (design taken from the RD03)
  • Full Termignoni Exhaust System
  • Larger Rear Side Panels
  • Heel Guards trimmed and painted silver
  • Frame Painted white
  • 3D Printed Bashplate (plastic) and painted silver
  • Larger fuel tank (its wider and deeper, although I'm not sure if it is just cosmetic for the show bike or not)
  • 3D Printed Tank Protector
  • Larger Footpegs
  • Pillion Hangers and pegs removed
  • Swingarm in silver
  • Ohlins spring on stock shock
  • Carbon Fibre (or hydro dipped) Engine Guards, Tank Trim and rear section of Front Mudguard
  • Indicators removed
  • Trimmed Rear Mudguard/Tailpiece

Impressive R&D effort.

Is this an early April Fools joke? I feel like it is but the Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports has been showing up on other news sites before it was posted here.

I really don't see the point of this, may as well add those parts yourself.

Atas

Wouldn't it be cool if this was a new CRF650L single?? That would justify knobbies and the exhaust a lot more than the 1000.

Of course the seat is going to suck, it's a Honda!
