How Far Will You Ride Your Africa Twin in a Day?

I'm doing some trip planning and trying to decide how many miles a day to include.

What do you find is a comfortable distance to ride on your Africa Twin (on paved roads) in a single day?

I've done 580 miles on my KLR on 6 occasions. Albeit I had to be at a destination on a specified day. The AT being far more comfy and freeway capable the same route would be easily doable. However, if time wasn't an issue, I would have rather done 300 in a day then have time for sight seeing and general lollygagging.

If you don't know where you're going, don't go there fast.

I don't go by distance but rather hours. 6 hours seems to be about when my butt starts to ache and I plan my trips accordingly.

Iíve done 450, but thatís to get somewhere ASAP. I agree with Mudslingrís view, sometimes you have to go by time rather than distance. Enjoyment of riding is the main factor for me, if itís a chore, then it spoils the trip.

I'm with Mudslingr, it is more about saddle time than distance, and 6 hours riding a day - broken into a couple of 3 hour sections - is my optimum. I have done a 12 hr day from Sydney to Broken Hill (1100km) to get to the Flinders Ranges in South Australia asap, but that was so uncomfortable on my neck, lower back, and arse that I vowed never to do it again!

I just drove my ATAS 651 km (404.5 miles) in about 9 hours as the last part of a three night trip here in Norway, and it sure is the most comfortable bike I've ever own. 500 miles a day should be no problem if needed.

I really like how I can move around on the ATAS seat, and how comfortable the bike is to ride while standing. What I don't like is the horrible buffeting and wind hitting the top of my helmet (I'm 190cm), so I need to find a solution for that.

On a recent cross Australia trip of 12000 km (7500 mile), my average per day was 650 km (400 mile). This was a comfortable days ride without too much stress so long as I stopped every 1.5 - 2.0 hours to give my arse a break.

I'm in the 400 mile range or so. Gives time for some breaks and sightseeing. That said, the White Rim trail in Canyonlands N.P. was 140 round trip, with 80 or so off road, and was all I wanted in a day.
