Touratech Zega Mundos - Better video

Posting this here in the Parts and Accessories sub-forum too...

I shortened the last video some and started learning a bit how to use Movie Maker to add titles and text for a bit more professional look... yeah...

Thanks for putting up with me while I work through this stuff.

But anyone who's looking into Panniers for the 2018-19 Africa Twins (all models) might find some of this interesting.

Thanks for watching and I'm always open to any comments or suggestions.

Thanks, Gary

Any major thoughts for those who can't watch your video?

Oh yeah, man. I did a short write-up in another post months back (along with the H&B lowers) - here's the link:

https://www.africatwinforum.com/foru...-panniers.html

The biggest thing is the fact that the 2018 rack no longer requires drilling up through the fender. And oddly enough, you don't find that info very easily at the Touratech website.

But I love these panniers and the rack is strong as all get out. I like the way the bike looks with just the rack on it too.

The boxes are strong but light.

I know it's a matter of taste, but I love the way theses panns look on my bike and I couldn't imagine anything else looking as nice to my eyes.

Thanks, Gary

Nice looking bike Gary. Wish I was tall enough to have bought the very same bike.

No kidding? If that had been listed on their site I would have purchased them over the SW Motech set I purchased. That seems like an unfortunate oversight on their part. I literally chose the Motech because it didn't require drilling.

I think you're completely right. And I just checked again, and it would appear to any buyer (as it did to me when I purchased mine many months ago) that the drilling is still required.

Under "MANUALS & DOCUMENTS" on the page for the "ZEGA MUNDO PANNIER SYSTEM, HONDA AFRICA TWIN CRF1000L & ADVENTURE SPORTS ALL YEARS" there are two PDF links.

"Installation Instructions" and "Turn Signal Shortening Instructions for 2018 and newer bikes."

That's it.

The "Install Instructions" show drilling up through the fender.

And if you view the Turn Signal instructions for 2018 bikes, it appears, for all the world, to be a simple install guide for moving the indicators. But if you go to the last page, you will see, if you look very carefully, that it shows a different install procedure for the rack. In fact, these are the install instructions that came with the bike. And even with them in hand, I searched the box for the template until finally looking closely at that last page and realizing it wasn't necessary any more.

It's crazy that Touratech hasn't made it obviously clear on their page for the Zega Mundo Panns and Rack.

It is *such* a cool, smart and elegant solution and it is also an incredibly strong mounting system.

They hit it out of the park but haven't bothered to tell anyone about it. Nuts.

Gary, just watched your video (nice work BTW) and have a question for you. I've been looking around at luggage options for my AT and these look like they would be great, just wondering if the aluminum inside the boxes is coated or anodized? I couldn't find out on the Touratech website, the site mentions the newer Evo panniers are hard anodized but I don't see anything about the Mundos. No big deal if it isn't but I'm just curious if things (like clothes/fabrics) you put inside will turn black from touching the raw aluminum?

HerrDeacon, Thanks for the question.

I hadn't thought about the aluminum staining anything, honestly. I believe the Mundos are bare aluminum. They appear nicely polished. Not sure about staining fabrics, however.

I have yet to take a long trip, so I have zero data there. So far, so good with local stuff - I have carried my motorcycle jacket jammed into the 31L for several hours without any issues.

But I suppose it might make sense to pack clothes and such for long trips in bags if one was worried.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks, Gary

Thanks Gary. They probably won't be a problem but just thought I'd ask as I remember my hands getting quite black when I work with aluminum.

Look forward to hearing how you make out with them and also future videos.

I have the Zega's fitted to my 2019 ATAS... but they're direct from Honda.
This means they are different to what you can see in this video. My right side zega box is shaped to fit around the exhaust and the frame is tighter to the bike.

I haven't found any photos of any other bikes with this.. I presume you all know this available direct from the dealers?

If you want some photos I'm happy to post?

Also the locking mechanisms to attach to the bike are far more advanced.
