I am about to purchase a new 2017 Africa Twin. I noticed that the vehicle has a 392 pound weight limit. I will be using this machine for 2-up riding, but the combined weight is around 430 pounds before any luggage is on board. Does anyone know if the motorcycle would get damaged from riding more than the recommended weight, or is that 392 number more of a conservative number?

I know this is an old thread, but I found it via Google and I figure others will as well. I have ridden with 450 lbs with no problems. I had to nearly max out the preload but it handled okay. As others have mentioned, getting an aftermarket shock and spring would make it even better, but stock is adequate.
