2017 DCT - Do I need a reset ? Im a bit hesitant to try it

Hey Guys, on my 2017 DCT (12,000km) Ive noticed that once in a while, if im stopped with the bike 'in gear' , and no brake applied, ill get a very slight forward push, as if the DCT clutch is just ever so slightly engaged, usually once the bike has been ridden for a hour or so. its ever so slight, and easy to prevent movement even with just a foot on the ground.

Im running Amsoil 10W30 synthetic

It Doesn't always happen.

DCT shifting is great, no clunking, no hanging gears all nice, just like the day I got it (new) from that perspective.

So....is that normal, or do I need to do a DCT reset ?

I have seen the Reset procedures, im not worried about my ability to follow them to a "T", however I am mildly paranoid (read "Very paranoid") that I'll end up with the 'D'/'S' on the display and be unable to clear it and render my bike useless.

What say you early model DCT experts out there ?

thanks !

DCT creep?

I'd probably ponder the DCT reset route if I couldn't sleep at night.

Yes thats it, DCT Creep !

is it damaging to the DCT/Clutches ? if so ill try a reset.

If not, ill lose more sleep worrying about the reset going wrong and rendering my bike as a garage ornament
I don't have the slightest idea what I'm talking about but my wild guess would be that a reset wouldn't result in a problem ... you'd either get back to where you are with no change or the issue would be resolved. Good luck!

Cheers guys

It doesn't bother me per say, Im just paranoid (as usual) about it damaging the clutches if they not disengaging fully, so it would be good to know if its damaging or not, anyone know ?

Also, in case I venture into the reset, Any quirks with doing the reset on the early /2017's vs the later bikes? or are they all the same?
Mines a 2017. Just do at a steady speed as per manual

Cheers Speds, I didn't even know that was in the Owners Manual, couldn't find it there, time to read it again , see if I can find it, ive just used the posts here and youtube LOL

EDIT : its in the FactoryShop Manual, found it there

My fear is that I end up with the same issue as the OP in this thread : DCT Reset Always Unsuccessful

doesn't look like he ever resolved it or didn't report back
I would not be afraid to reset it... low probability of harm.

Likely a low probability that it will make a difference for creep, but never had the problem on my 2017.

You might test a 5W-30 or 0W-40 oil (without the "energy conserving" nonsense in the API circle) just to see if it makes a difference on this specific characteristic of the DCT. You might find it goes away with a different oil, not that there is anything wrong with Amsoil products.
Cheers !
OK chaps, I just did the DCT reset this morning. It took me a day or two to pluck up the courage to do it. But it went well.

Followed the instructions and no problem really.

I cannot believe how much smoother the shifting is !! I didn't think I had clunky shifting but OMG what a difference. We will see how the creep is at some point.

I made a video for my channel, it may help someone out there some day.

I'm a firm believer in doing a reset every oil change. When I use the paddle shifters a lot (mostly after long stints the twisties), the shifting seems to learn the pattern and gets clunky in auto mode. My experience is the reset either works or it doesn't. Never got stuck in a "broken" mode. Now that you're confident with it, do it whenever the shifting gets flaky.

If it was my first time and hesitant I would ride the bike to the nearest dealer to warm it up and do it in there lot. Did it once at home and most likely should do it again at 15k now

I'm in the middle of nowhere and the Honda Dealer nearest me doesn't even have a certified Honda tech/mechanic on staff. How thats possible I don't know, but its true.

Anyway, I did it, its all good now. So no more worries on that front
