I'm considering it. I'm down in that area 3-4 times/year to ride roads in the area with friends, but the dealer keeps telling me to check out the dual sport roads down there sometime and I never have. Maybe that would be my way of checking them out. I will tell you though, its well worth the 9 hr drive to that area. I drive a similar distance from ohio to get there and it has some of the coolest roads in the US for motorcycles, in my opinion anyway.Anyone planing on attending the March Moto Madness in TN this year? I've been watching more and more videos of the area and that event. I agree with you from what the videos show. I'ts on my short list for sure. Might book my spot and go check it out this year.I'm considering it. I’m only 3 hours west of Tellico Plains, and goes to show how ignorant I am of events. I went to the web site and watched the video. It looks like I could be an observer, but no way could I do much of the riding. Physically, it is beyond my skills and abilities.Anyone planing on attending the March Moto Madness in TN this year? Americade does look fun!I’m only 3 hours west of Tellico Plains, and goes to show how ignorant I am of events. I went to the web site and watched the video. It looks like I could be an observer, but no way could I do much of the riding. Physically, it is beyond my skills and abilities.
I might come out to check it out.
I was looking at Americade this year. May 29 - June 3, 2023. Never been. They have a 160 mile Adventure Ride day on packed gravel and forest roads. You know, light weight adventure riding. I have been to the Adirondack area of New York and it is beautiful. However, another group I ride with (NC700 Forum) is meeting in the Smoky Mountains the same week. Some of those guys get off the blacktop and I believe I might improve my skills with them.
It’s nearly 1000 miles from home, would take me 3 days if not 4 to get there. Add in stopping at friends in route, add 4 days more for visiting, so it’ll take me a week to get there and another to get home. Therefore, I’d be away from home for a month! Lol. I have known a dozen or more riders that went to Americade every year. That was back in the 90’s.Americade does look fun!
It appears they are trying to pull in some adventure rides this year. They have a 160 mile adventure ride scheduled. It sounds more like a light weight hard pack dirt road through the Adirondack’s with a sit down lunch around the half way point. I’m not physically healthy or stout enough to throw my ATAS around the mud or serious dirt. I wanted a machine with ground clearance, cruise control, fuel capacity and power that would keep me from missing my Gold Wings too much. I kept taking my gold wings on roads that were eventually going to get me into trouble. My 2020 ATAS ES DCT has been ideal for my light weight off road riding. Gravel, forest roads, twisty Tennessee backroads, and the super slab whenever I need too. I have hiked around the Adirondack but never road around them. Since GWRRA has gone the way of the Dodo, I am looking for something else.I work on Staff at Americade, been doing it since 2008. It is a fun rally, but not cheap. Lots of stuff to do, but not really an Adventure bike crowd Though. That is why they started Dirt Daze in NH. But the area has plenty of dirt roads, just not alot of Adv bikes…. Lots of Harley baggers though.
