Can anyone give me an idea of where the extra capacity is located, taller, wider, reduced ball clearance, etc? I can't find a dealer that has both bikes in stock to compare.

I think its all in the extra width of the tank I don't think the two bikes are shorter or taller then each other. You could look up a front view of both bikes online that might help??
Basically the tank is deeper, you can see on the AT the tank has plastic below it, on the ATAS it doesn't.
Also you can see the front of the tank is wider.

Thanks Hood I never even noticed the piece below the tank. Between your two bikes do you notice any difference in the width?? I thought for sure the ATAS was wider them the standard??
I did notice a bit more bulk up forward but just visually, didn't notice it being a problem, also didn't notice any real weight difference even though there is. :D

Not sure if I am honest, probably the matt black just edged it.

With full tanks...
The AT is like riding a normal bike but a bit tall. The ATAS is like riding a normal bike but with half a grand piano in your lap.

That perspective makes the ATAS appear quite chunky.

They look to be the CRF1000's, the tank on the ATAS looks bulkier at the rear than the CRF1100 ATAS is.

2022 ATAS from similar angle (arms not long enough to get right above it :D), much narrower to rear of tank than the 2018/19 ATAS/

I've been able to sit on new bikes with both tank sizes now, unfortunately not side by side. The larger tank and taller windscreen combined make the two bikes feel/appear very different. The AS feels immediately like a big touring bike, which is not necessarily a bad thing, and the standard model feels like a standard motorcycle. I bought the standard but I could easily see going either way.
