air filter change 1100 standard

I have a 2020 standard with 6500 miles. Going on a 7,000 mile road trip. Do I change out my air filters, just pull them and blow them off? If I do replace recommendations? It will be an all pavement trip. Thanks

I've got the 2020 ATAS ES & decided to replace my air filters at 11 000kms.
Only reason why - I had the air filters laying in my tool shed since I bought my Africa Twin.
So I thought, let me see how difficult it is...

I'm not too sure on the standard AT, but on my Adventure Sports, it was a bit of a mission to change.
Okay added, I decided to remove as much of my cosmetics in order to avoid scratching anything.
And removing the airbox covers (taking them out completely) so I could clean everything out (there was some oil from the breather inside the airbox), was also a mission.
I had to loosen my tank & move it back as far as possible just to get the airbox cover to come out.

So all in all - if you want to be fussy like me & clean everything, it is a mission to do. (Unless I just made life unnecessary difficult for myself?)

Compared to my old NC750X this was a hell of a job.

O, and was the old air filters dirty? Not in the least. I actually just waisted my time...
But now I know what a job it is & trust me, I won't be doing that job anytime soon.

oh man thank you. That is what I am trying to avoid, creating a huge amount of work for something that does not need to be done. I would think if I was going through all that trouble I would just change them out. I was hoping for a youtube video for the newer 1100 on chainging the airfilters but none have been posted. Actually the little bit of info you provided was great!

The only video I found on YouTube was a South African guy (also with a 2020 ATAS) briefly showing how to remove & refit the side body panels.
Maybe on the standard version you won't have to move the tank back (as black99S says), but on my Adventure Sports I could not get the airbox cover out (in order to clean inside the airbox).
Maybe you can slide the air filters out & slide the new ones in without moving the tank.

To get to the bolts to loosen the tank was also a 13 1 TCH (if you get my meaning).

I also struggled a bit with clipping the side panels back into place & making sure it fit snug.

As I said, maybe I just made things more complicated / difficult for myself. But I honestly didn't think it was an easy job.
If you're like me that doesn't do dirt roads, I'll definitely leave the filters till at least 20 000kms.
