I'm 53 had a hip replacement and have a Goldwind Tour DCT as my main B=bike and just added a 22 Africa Twin Adventure Sports DCT a few days ago. I take lots of trips and do motorcycle camping exclusively. I plan on riding both road and street 50/50/ Love the bike so far just trying to figure out all of the risk accessories now. You're only as old as you feel and while I can I'm gone take this sucker every where it will go. Happy adventures!

I'm 52, looks like I'm in good company.
I love sport-bikes, but they're just not comfortable anymore. Thought about a sport-tourer first, then remembered all the gravel roads I've passed by on road rides. The local Honda dealer has treated me well and the AT is a good-looking machine.

One of the disadvantages of the bike is actually my favorite things. The height, once I learned how to mount and dismount the beast. I love looking over the hoods of cars and have a great view far down the trail. I feel like a Canadian mountee, or horse mounted police person. Standing gives an even greater presence.

You're never hunched over in the saddle and moving the bike puts grab handles above the waist level. Balance has always been a primary skill while motorcycling, you just have to maintain a high level. You can't get lazy and kick out the side stand and jump off the bike, like a cruiser.

Enjoy the bike and your new travels. Lack of pavement is no longer a limitation.

I just turned 59 and am still learning off road techniques. Body feels it after a few days and I need help when I drop the bike in the sand :) finding riding partners is the tough part. I am not retired yet so restricted to weekend rides :)
If you're near southern California I'd be happy to ride with you.
