Hi all I have just been for a short but solid off-road ride on the twin and found 2 things blatantly obvious.
1. The suspension bottoms far too quickly never harsh but still to easily.
2. When it rebounds it feels like a pogo stick I will add that i have the rebound set to a fairly fast setting on the shock so that the shock doesn't pack and then spit me off. So possibly more a result of not enough compression damping and trying to compensate by speeding up rebound. Still less than ideal.

For a 230kg bike it does handle off-road sufficiently well if it's mostly dirt roads and fire trails but when the terrain gets more uneven the suspension gets quickly out of its depth.

What have you other Aussie riders done with your suspension to make it more suitable off-road? I have read some stuff on Tekniks website about what they do to the Africa Twin has anyone used them for upgrades and ridden fairly solid off-road before and after and have a good comparison of the effectiveness of the work?

Hi Nusk, as an ex-enduro rider myself I agree the OE suspension is for general Adv Riding for 90% of riders, nothing more.
I have found the best OE setting is to wind everything up to the max, even then its only 70% enduro capable. (I'm 95kg fully loaded)
So I have ordered a new Ohlins rear and Andreani front,
I also hear Tiknik fix is quite good, and they also recommend my new set-up.
Will be fitting them soon. See same subject on Facebook "Aussie Africa Twin Owners" great place to be for aussie advice.

Hi again, I can't sprout off enough about MPE suspension in Caloundra. Give Paul a ring and talk to him about an upgrade, he is very professional and inexpensive.

Retail, Shock + Fork Cartridges & Springs approx AU$2600+Labor+Sundries $300, call it 3 large, but as I figure whats the point of having a $16000 bike if I can only use it to 70% of my capability. (don't get me wrong, I'm no Toby not even close, but I can ride and like going fast over rough stuff)
As I said before, for 90% of general Adv riders OE is quite capable, I did 13000k on the OE but now I personally need more.
And from what others have said and reports I have read, there are many suspension shops out there that can also do a great job with different brand set up's, ultimately its up to what you feel is best for you and your budget.
I'm having mine all fitted tomorrow, than a big 2 day 80% dirt ride on the weekend, time will tell :)

You're dead right about having the bike how you want it. I fully agree I'm just trying to figure out if a stock suspension revalve will be good enough for me. After all I still have a CRF450x to scratch my off-road itch. Please report on how you find the bike after you work is done.
