I had an Africa Twin back in the 90s but have been riding KTM on long adventures since. I rode around world on KTM 990 Adventure... As did my girlfriend who had never ridden before that time. www.bigbiketrip.net

Now we are getting new Honda CRF 1000 L Africa Twins ....but with rugged soft panniers this time... No more aluminium boxes. We are thinking one auto in white ( for Fanny coz she's always stalling doing u turns ) and one manual in black ( for me coz I is an old fart and set in my ways) :grin2:

While visiting the Florida Keys a few years back, I encountered a gentleman from Scotland who was starting out in the Keys and riding to Anchorage. He utilized a real-time GPS that transmitted his location, via satellite to his wife back in Scotland. As he rode, she would IM/text him as he made progress to determine how far ahead of him to make sleeping arrangements at hotels, B&B's, or campgrounds.

She also arranged for his over-the-road maintenance, as he traveled, for his Triumph Scrambler, which had a sidecar and he was pulling a small trailer. The guy was in his mid to late 60's and had an adventure spirit like the two of you.

Maybe for your next trip, for those of is who don't venture too far, you could research such a system and followers could keep track of your progress and maybe even volunteer to help you as an online support team or something. I'd help out and I bet just about everyone on this new forum would as well.

Just a thought.

Cheers and ride safely.

Shipping bikes sounds pretty expensive. I would also look into how much you could sell your bike for on the used market, take that and the money you aren't spending on shipping and see what you have to just buy something new.

Unsure of Software Package Used By Scottsman

I'm sorry for the delay in responding. I do not know what software he used for his
GPS, but there are a lot out there. It's not cheap to do, but you can subscribe to
offerings out there that will tract your GPS unit's location and make it available
to others.

The guy did not ship his bike here, like the original poster shipped their bikes. He bought one here and sold it when he was done with his trip. At least that's what I recall him saying.

Stay safe and ride a lot.
