Battery disconnect/reconnect results in no power to the TFT

1338 Views 14 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  mikeboysen80
I recently changed my tires and when I was finished had an annoying ABS light blinking. I've triple checked everything and it wouldn't go away. So, I ultimately disconnected my battery to see if I could get the system to reset. The next day I reconnected and now the TFT does not come on. In fact, the USB port no longer supplies power. The bike runs fine, but obviously I can't change any settings (and the ABS is still blinking - and doesn't work).

What else can I look for before scheduling an appointment to get ripped off?

Did you check ALL the fuses?

The first thing to check is that the front wheel is mounted properly and has not been installed in a reversed position. Look for the perforated ABS disk and make sure it is beside the fixed ABS sensor.
It seems to be a mistake that even the dealers get make from time to time. For some reason Honda didn't think to make the front wheel fit only one way. If the front wheel is on wrong, you may have to remount the tire to keep the direction of rotation correct.

That's the first thing I checked. Everything is find up front. The back went out of whack and I thought I had figured it out but I made sure it was aligned and properly torqued and still getting the issue. Of course now the TFT is not getting power or not powering up

Do the indicators work?

Does the horn work?

Check for power and ground at the screen connector, expect:
battery voltage between the black/red cable and ground;
battery voltage between the red/white cable and ground;
continuity between the green cable and ground.

BTW disconnecting the battery will not reset the ABS MIL, count the flashes to determine the DTC and act on that information.

Indicators and horn work. Lights work. Small screen works.

I'll have to track those voltage questions down. I'm not sure where the screen connector is
I'm not sure where the screen connector is
Its a 32 pin grey connector behind the screen
@Jna329 any thoughts on this?

MID doesn't power up and USB port dead. aux port has power, no blown fuses. I can't find the inline 3amp fuses you pointed to in the Aux port thread. Dismantling the entire front end to check the connectors seems pointless. This happened immediately on reconnecting the battery, so it seems highly correlated.
I experienced this last night on my sons 2020 Adventure sports. I turned the key on, removed and reinstalled all the fuses, under the seat, one at a time. i dont know which fuse did the trick, but it "rebooted" the TFT and it came to life. Hope this helps.

@Waterdog I'll give that a try. The dealer spent a few hours and believes the TFT needs to be replaced. They can't even be ordered until June. It's a $3k fix. I don't have huevos to order this part from Webike Japan - which has it in stock for $1200. Apparently the electronics part numbers obfuscate potential differences in markets, and they sell for the Japanese market (probably more features!).

I have read here there is a higher software and hardware numbers or Version.
Perhaps the Japanese version uses a different software file, and you will stuck with a nice $1200 paperweight.
Sad as it is, but I think should wait until Honda decides to release info on the fix, upgrades, Service Campaign or Recall regarding the TFT.
Crossing Fingers with Mine. Year 22, Version 3.4, working fine. Knock on wood!.

Have you got this resolved, mine went blank after battery was quite weak, not sure what to do?

No. My dealer did a deep dive and the unit is toast. On national backorder until June I was told. I'm gonna check on availability soon
