I have had my Africa twin (rally red manual ) since the first of June . 1800 miles so far . Like the bike . couple of niggles , mainly the wind noise ( which is now sorted to an acceptable level). . Love the power and comfort . I find the throttle to surge a bit at low throttle cruise especially in the heat . But it is not a deal breaker by any means . Over all a wonderful machine .

Try a Booster Plug to sort out your surging at low speeds.
I have one on our current bike, an F700GS. Made a world of difference. Smooth engine response and no more stalling.
My bike arrives in October but I have already ordered my Booster Plug.
