Walked into local CT dealer and put $500 deposit on a 2022 AT DCT model on May 27. They told me they come in the country to CA (form Japan) then get shipped to regional warehouses for local distribution. Our warehouse for the northeast is in Norfolk, VA.
On May 27 I was told the bike would be shipped about May 31.
Then I was told it was rescheduled to ship from Norfolk on June 30.
Now I am told it is to be shipped from Norfolk on July 31.

Dealer tells me this is the same for most vehicles/bikes.....they are stuck in the middle. Nothing they can do.

I know there are global supply chain issues but it seems hard to believe that Honda cannot provide a valid estimate to dealers.

Thoughts and experiences?

I ran into something similar earlier in this year. I put a deposit down early-mid February on a '22 ATAS, was told it was soon to be shipped to the dealer from the warehouse/distribution center.
Called the dealer end of February, no news. Called again a couple more weeks after that, nothing. It finally showed up towards the end of March.
Thankfully it was only a bit over a month and a half wait, but I was anxious and the dealer had originally told me 1-2weeks, so that was kinda frustrating.

Thanks for the insight @jster35.

Just seems odd with technology, bar codes, etc. they cannot estimate when it would be built and track shipping....
Were they ever able to track it for you?

My dealer says there are many issues with shippers and damage to bikes, etc.

Ikr. In my case what made it even more confusing was that the dealer said it had just shipped from the warehouse a couple days prior when I put the deposit down. Then when I called back a few weeks later, they said they had based that off the fact it was on the list of invoiced bikes or whatever that's their indicator the bike is part of a shipment on its way from the warehouse to the dealer.
They did some digging and determined that it actually hadn't shipped for whatever reason, and told me they didn't know for sure when it would (but hopefully w/in a week or two) and that they couldn't track it.

Whole situation seemed kinda weird and I didn't understand what exactly was going on; I was just glad when it showed up.

Pretty much true here in my area of Northern Ohio also finding a 2022 AT standard. A large dealer 2hrs south of me wants a $500 deposit, but have not had one in stock for months? Closet dealer to me (50 miles west) keeps bumping arrival dates to back order status constantly. I'd like to buy from them since they don't charge Freight/Prep Fee which can be up to or over 1K from other dealers.

Again no one can give a solid date on an arrival. Rode my touring bike to Cleveland area two days ago and stopped at 3 dealers along the way. Same story: Ordered months ago, still no stock. If one does come in it's gone before it comes out of the shipping crate. Was told by two dealers recently hopefully this end by February 2023. And my best friend in southern Ohio had to drive out of state 4 hours to purchase his 2022 AT last week. But at least they also waiver Freight/Prep Fee. I bet when I buy it will be a 2023 and early next year.....

Oh, and one more dealer story: This time of year Honda manufacturing is focusing on ramping up for winter month vehicles i.e. ATV, Side by Side etc. My/our luck will hopefully change soon. Good thread that I was looking for to vent about.

They have a 2022 Africa Twin DCT on the floor at my dealer here in Colorado. That probably doesn't do you much good unless you wanted to fly and buy, but they did have it as of Wednesday when I was there.

Also a pre-owned 2022 with 600-some miles on the Odometer.

Thank you. But not interested in DCT or an over a 3hr drive. I'll be patient...... only a want, not a need.

My local dealer doesn't have any either.

A couple years back they would order the holdovers ('17/'18) from Honda and sell them at a pretty big discount. I remember looking them over and wishing for a bigger tank and tubeless wheels...

Bought a 21 hold over east of Cleveland last Friday. Guy said he couldn’t sell it because everyone hated the black. Well thank you because the only thing I like better than a black bike is a discount 0 mile black bike.
Low maintenance black, or high maintenance black?

Nice bike. I test rode your bike last month at Mentor dealership...... decided I wanted 2022 standard instead. May be looking at 2023 now due to shortage. Enjoy!
Possibly, or another just like it. Picked it up in middlefield. This one had zero on the odometer. Maybe resetting the odometer was what them meant when they said they had to pull the bike out and get it prepped. I assumed that meant fluids, checks and such. If it was this one, let me personally thank you for passing on it.

I stand corrected then if you purchased in Middlefield. I was thinking Mentor since you stated east of Cleveland. They had two 2021 AT ES a few weeks back. One manual tran, the other DCT. Enjoy your "new" ride.

Now I am told it is to be shipped from Norfolk on Aug 15. ):
(Prior was July 31, before that was June 30)
Today I contacted a dealer 1/2 way across the State who had a 2022 AT Standard advertised on cycletrader and their website. As usual they did not have one on show room floor. But it shipped 2 days ago!!!! I at least received a quote which seems to be the standard. Like you did desmo907, I'm thinking of just plunking down $500 at the dealer who gave me the best quote and just ride it out.
