Visited the yearly motorbike show in Utrecht The Netherlands and came in discussion with a Dunlop rep. Told him I bought an AT and about the discussions on the wet weather performance of the 1ste mount Dunlop TrailMax tyres. The man told me the following interesting story. Dunlop Europe is owned by Goodyear, whereas Dunlop Asia is owned by Sumitomo Japan. The tyres mounted on the AT are from Dunlop Japan (made in Japan) and are specially made for Honda and the AT. Made, based on Honda requirements. Dunlop was rewarded the order for the 1st mount. All Dunlop tyres in Europe are made in France in the Goodyear/ Dunlop plant. The rear tyre 150x70-18" TrailMax does not exist officially (in the Dunlop EUR catalog); instead the TrailSmart will be the replacement (road) tyre in EUR and possibly the US and Canada. TrailMax max tyre size available (in EUR) is 120x70-18". TrailSmart is slightly more onroad focussed than Trailmax; TrailSmart 90% onroad, TrailMax 80% onroad. TrailSmart was tested by the German Motorrad Magazine very good. The man shaked his head and walked away with a smile, may be telling too much?
