First oil change dilemma

398 Views 9 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Art
Hey people,

I am due for my first oil change on my AT, as i have 1000km on it now. Problem is the earliest date at the local honda service is in 3 weeks.

Basically the question is whether I can and if so, than by how much over the recommended oil change milage (giving to a fact that its the first oil change)?

Thanks!

Do it yourself, I’m sure you can get all you need (oil & filters) shipped to you before that.
On my 2021 my dealer said as long as I didn't go over about 900 miles I would be fine for the warranty but I wasn't keen so I just reduced my riding until they could slot me in. On my 2022 I booked as soon as I picked it up and got a slot for a few weeks later and I just had 615miles when it was taken in.
Not sure about where you are but here, to keep the warranty, it has to be dealer serviced.

If your jurisdiction permits it in warranty, definitely just do it yourself.

The hardest thing I find is clean-up and organizing the oil for responsible disposal.

Do it yourself and keep the receipts. Can hurt to take a couple pics as well. If the states you can take the used oil to any oil change facility and they will recycle it.

Aye in North America, other places not so.
So different "AT manuals" for different countries ?

It would be interesting to see what does it say in @Lkovac1988 owners manual ?

Trade-offs galore with Honda.

Honda Canada offers unlimited mileage and a mere one year factory warranty on the Africa Twin and you can service yourself [properly, of course] and not void warranty.

Some EU regions: 3, 4 or 5 year warranties? Wuz dat?

But alas, some of those regions must have service formally registered with an authorized garage?

What he said, here in the UK every local authority has a recycling depot that accepts waste engine oil. I'm sure there will be similar in Slovakia.
