I don't have the Honda grips or any for that matter however for those who do, spoke to my dealer today and Honda are aware of the problem and likely to be recalled.
What temperatures were you riding in?Did 170 miles today, had the heated grips on all day switching between setting 4 and 5 seemed ok to me,
I'd get them changed and see if the problem is resolved. If they don't work you can still make a claim. I wouldn't expect a new part number if it was simply a bad batch.New replacement grips at the dealers, same part number as the old ones.
Do I get them changed or just reject ?
That's weird ! Noo... I picked up my bike on a winter day, and only used the position 5. Which doesn(t give much warmth. I got NO manual with the grips. Could you please scan and post it for us? That might be an explanation...I've just fitted the Honda heated grips and the 12v socket myself, the last couple of pages have notes about operation and advise to the customer. From memory, it says to test the operation on no higher than setting 3, and to advise customer "to use on setting 2 a week after fitment". I took this as possibly bad translation and that for the first week of use should be on lower settings, then perhaps after a "bedding in period" increase the heat setting. I went out on a 130mile scuttle around on fast A and B roads yesterday on setting 2 with thin summer gloves and it was comfortable and at no point cold.
I wonder if anyone that has the Honda grips which were fitted by their dealer were told the above...?
Yes of course, it's at work so I will do it tomorrow.That's weird ! Noo... I picked up my bike on a winter day, and only used the position 5. Which doesn(t give much warmth. I got NO manual with the grips. Could you please scan and post it for us? That might be an explanation...
If you read that note properly, you see that testing operation in max level 3 is only for the LEFT grip.I've just fitted the Honda heated grips and the 12v socket myself, the last couple of pages have notes about operation and advise to the customer. If I read it properly? - a little rude, if we are being picky it doesn't at any point say "one week max level 2". I did say previously how I have interpreted a (perhaps) poor translation.If you read that note properly, you see that testing operation in max level 3 is only for the LEFT grip.
Why? Because attaching right grip you don't need grip glue. IMO this "one week max level 2" thing is just for the glue. It needs time to cure.
.
Oh sorry, english is not my native language... 0If I read it properly? - a little rude, if we are being picky it doesn't at any point say "one week max level 2". I did say previously how I have interpreted a (perhaps) poor translation.
Have you fitted genuine Honda heated grips yourself?
Here are a couple of pics of the fitting instructions;

Yes the instructions are 00 and the grip kit is 01.Thanks for posting that. What I found most interesting is that the part number in the instructions has 00 at the end instead of 01 as in 08T70-MJN-A01 which is the part number currently cited for the AT heated grips. Are your heated grips 5 stage? Does the box say A01 anywhere on it? There had been a suspicion that the 00 grips worked better.
Where did you buy them?

Yes 5stage heat settings.
I ordered them from my dealer friend at Motoden along with several other parts when I ordered the bike.
That link you posted isn't for fitment to the AT, every accessory has a piece of paper in its box with a web link to an online accessory installation guide.
