Heed crashbars for the CRF-1100

Last week I received from Poland the crashbars for my ATAS DCT ES yesterday I have mounted these on the bike and that took me 2 hours. These crashbars are good quality and stronger then the Honda OEM bar. They also made fixing points for the foglights on it. If I compare it with the OM bars on my old bike then OM is really heavy duty stuff. Why I bought Heed instead of OM? 1. OM is not available on this moment 2. I want to know what the difference with OM.
One thing I can say the price of Heed is great compare to Honda OEM. Compare Heed

with OM is not fair.

I spent my day attempting To mount me new needs on a 22 adventure sport DCT..couple comments…

1. On ThE right side, the bent bracket goes against the engIne, then he spacer. The instructions don’t say and by the time you realize you did it wrong it is brutal to redo it. In my case, I had finally gotten the lower front bolts on and there was no way I was taking them off again!!!!

2. Most bolts and nuts are a horrendous pain to do. I used every tool I had, my girlfriends very long fingers, and much swearing to get all the nuts, washers and spacers on.

3. The bars don’t fit well. I left loose what I could, but it was still very difficult to get the holes to line up. I still need to finish the upper one on the right side and the front bolt and spacer by the lights. It is very hard to push, pull and yank the bars To get the holes close enough to jam in the bolts…

4. I blame Honda a bit for designing an adventure bike without making reasonable points to connect crash bars. My vstrom was a breeze to do. The Honda seems to make it a nightmare for heed and other companies to attach the bars. Engine bolts, places where here is no way to get a wrench in, etc.

as for the bars themselves, they Look great, were relatively cheap, and arrived from Poland in three weeks with no additional duty..

the thought of taking these off to fix something else is giving me PTSD… and I am an engineer who does all my own work on my cars and bikes. This made replacing my Mazda cx-5 belt tensioner seem like doing an oil change in comparison.

Warning: be careful of what cleaning product you use on these bars.

For years I've used Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner on every bike part. This product has stained the Heed silver bars with obvious eyesore water marks.

The Heed bars arrived today which was quite quick considering I only ordered Monday night.

Packaging is good, covered in lots of pipe lagging foam.

Spent the last 2 or 3 hrs fitting them, not too bad apart from the brackets/spacers on the left side up at the battery, not much room to get fingers in to hold the spacer and bracket.

The instructions are reasonable but the pictures could be better. They seem to suggest that the front bit under the light should be fitted with the spacer in between like below.

I however have changed it so that it is on the right hand side (of bike) and that brings the bars together and they are more central, not sure if that is what others have done or not?

Bars look good but I will have to wait until tomorrow before I can go a run as I want to double check in daylight that everything is tight and no pipes or wires rubbing on them.
I will see if there is any vibration like a few others have had, hopefully not.

.
I installed mine yesterday and remembered reading your comment about the front spacer. I put it on the right also.

Just a piece of feedback here as one of the Heed customer. I also bought recently the Heed Crash bars for my Africa twin 1000L, but despite good looks and decent prices, the crash bars aren't as rugged and protective as they look. My bike was recently tipped over by the wind (had the cover on) and even though it fall on soft soil and not asphalt, the crash bar bended and it damaged my fairing, had to order a replacement part.

So long story short, if you buy them for the looks, yes it's worth having it, but if you need them to protect your bike - I don't really see the point of that. It will just add extra weight.

Where did they bend?
I've had several tipovers on my bike on asphalt/stone and a few crashes offroad with the Heeds bunker bars and they held up very well in all those falls. They took some scratches but nothing on the bike was damaged.

As you can see in the pictures bellow, it bended on the left hand side, I used to have about 3-4cm space between the crash bar and the fairing, now is ~1cm, also from the front you can see that it isn't straight anymore. And I took it out and refitted it, hoping it would solve the problem, but not successful unfortunately.
