Hi all. Toolkit question

438 Views 12 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  DoubleThumper
Hi everyone just got my 2018 ATAS heading off to Europe on Sunday and was wondering what tools are best to take as the toolkit ( or what was left when I bought it) seems sadly lacking. Any suggestions welcome thanks

Welcome to the Forum @wilsdude01.

On most North American AT models, almost any tools will do since essentially none come with the bike.

There are many searchable Forum threads/posts with members detailing their tools recommendations.

The list could be endless but this is what I took on my travels last year, I also had Greenflag Breakdown cover. Chain adjustment and being able to take wheels/callipers off being my main concern.

  • Honda reversible screwdriver
  • 10mm (rear wheel adjuster)
  • 12mm (Caliper, front Axle pinch, rear wheel adjuster)
  • 22mm / 27mm (red Gidibii)
  • Pump
  • Suitable Allen keys (mainly 5mm)
  • Pro Grip Flexi Pliers
  • Front axle adapter
  • Puncture repair kit

Assuming you're not racking up any more than 4,000 miles and the motorcycle is well maintained & suitable prepped and you're allowed spanners there shouldn't be a need for anything more than a head torch, puncture kit, means to inflate the tyre, chain lube, means to adjust the drive chain, a pair of mechanics gloves and a hi-viz vest. If you're going to carry spare fuses you may need a mini fuse puller and a multimeter.

Hopefully you'll not be needing any of that.

I agree with Art, probably you won‘t need any. However, I got this one last year, after I met the guy at a Touratech event: Japanese & Triumph Motorcycle Tool Set - SBVTools

You will be able to do almost anything with it … watch the videos about the toolkit.

The one thing I would like to change is that mosterous 27mm spanner (Bottom right) for the rear wheel. There is a small 5mm spacer (next to the red grease jar) that I use to reduce it to a 22mm for the front wheel.
The **** thing weighs 400g!

More than a few years ago I bought the knock-off at AliExpress and use it all the time (now $38.35C):
