Honda sources have said their main target is the KTM 990 ADV. Which is logical considering thats probably the out and out best performing ADV on the market. by best performing i mean as an ADV bike. Most ADV's don't offer you the balance of good manners both on and off road, but the KTM does and the Honda looks to as well.

Hondas advantage will come from price, reliability, reputation and a MASSIVE support network of dealers.

Paige, I agree with Honda's target being KTM. The new Twin will definitely be geared towards off-road first, and on-road second. Unlike the heavy BMW Adventure bikes.

I can't wait to see the farkles come out for the Africa Twin :)

That's what i've been noticing from them, a lot of indians scooping these up and I can see why. Good to see KTM has a market where they're doing extremely well.
Back to KTM vs Honda, I wonder if Honda may be considering ADV'ing more bikes in their range. KTM is looking at the Duke 390 in ADV trim... and ADV bikes seem to be the next it thing for the industry...

It will be a smart move if they do that. Might as well while the competition is also doing that. Who knows in the coming months we may see honda official step up to the plate or at the least see some good speculation around it.

I think that as the KTM 950/990 is defunct now, their target is more aimed at the KTM 1050. But then, it's taken Honda that long to bring out this bike, the 990's were still in production when they started the development.

I believe that all of the more expensive KTM On-Road & Off-Road models are produced in Austria... from what I understand, the smaller displacement Duke's and the RC390 are the only road going KTM's being made in India.

It should definitely be easier to own a Honda than a KTM. I think some people go for KTM in the first place because it is a bit more rare to see them.
Fixed that for you... :wink2:

Honda has a much larger dealer network than KTM, at least in the US. That's probably true for most other countries as well.

And KTM's are somewhat known as higher maintenance bikes, whereas Honda has always enjoyed a solid reputation as being among the most reliable motorcycles on the planet.

There may be a few who choose to buy a KTM because of a perceived "rarity", but at the end of the day I doubt that's a significant factor for those who do buy KTM motorcycles.
