How is your cardo packtalk bold set up on your 2020/21 ATAS?

I just got a new cardo packtalk bold.
I have my iphoneXR synced with my bike by bluetooth and I also plug it in for carplay by using the lightning cable.
Then I have my iphone XR linked to my cardo by bluetooth.
Then I have my the bike linked to the cardo by bluetooth.
Then I have my IphoneXR linked by Bluetooth to the cardo.
Does this make sense? Should I do something different? I dont seem to be able to use the "Hey cardo" features.
If you have a cardo packtalk bold, how do you link it up?

I have Cardo PackTalk Slim connected. Android Auto. When You get the order good, it works 8 out of 10 times. Those 2 times I don't know what happens. And You can do whatever You want, it dosen't work. And then suddenly, out of nowhere, it works again.

The way you are set up can cause system conflict.
Unless you are using your Cardo on another bike without Bluetooth you need to forget the connection between your iPhone and Cardo.

Here’s your connections:
Phone to bike.
Cardo to bike.
This will allow the motorcycle manage the connections.
If you allow the iPhone to have a connection to the Cardo there is competition for the connection. The iPhone cannot connect to both the bike and the Cardo at the same time efficiently.

If you are using Bluetooth on another bike you need to manually turn off the connection between the iPhone and Cardo when riding the Twin.

Clear as mud, I know.

Cheers!

Thank you to both of you for responding. I knew there was something wrong. Spending all this money and getting such a bad outcome seemed wrong. I will try your method Mr. King. I was laughing when I read the 8 of 10 time it works. Which is exactly what I was getting. And I could not figure out what I was doing wrong. ANd yes as I write this it is clear as mud. But I will go set it up the way you say and go for a ride! Thanks

So when you say phone to bike you mean connected by cable and not bluetooth?

It matters not as long as the phone is not connected to the Cardo, or whatever helmet comm system you’re using.
I have posted my combos with these products. Current setup is:
1. Pair Cardo and iPhone only.
2. Run the Cardo app at all times.
3. Press 'n hold the back button when the AT asks to pair with a headset to start Car Play (cabled connected). You don't need to pair with a headset.
4. If no audio, on the iPhone you need to change the Airplay link from Car Play back to Cardo. If you have the Cardo app running it seems to lock this setting
5. This is the only setup if you want to use the full set of "Hey Cardo" voice commands and don't mind not having volume control via the AT switch-block. I use Car Play and the AT switch-block to control TomTomGO etc.

Cheers
Conrad
I had the OP setup as per below, you have to check the Airplay setting as it changes as the iPhone connects to the AT and Cardo. Main issue is once the AT is connected to the Cardo the "Hey Cardo" voice command set is reduced - from memory only the battery status command will work.
Phone - AT Bluetooth paired
Phone - AT Cable connected
Phone - Cardo Bluetooth paired (Phone 1)
AT - Cardo Bluetooth paired (Phone 2)
Hi Quick Question for anyone that has a cardo packtalk bold can you confirm that you can listen to music/phone as well as communicate with a 2nd head set.

I currently have a Sena 20S Evo that does this but I think the 3 hour ride in the rain this morning just killed that! ( waste of £200 if a bit of rain kills it but that's another story) my partners basic Sena 5 model she has to push a button to cycle between intercom or music which isn't ideal if I'm telling her to hold on for some reason while she is away with music.

You can listen to music/phone/navi as well as communicate with a 2nd head set without pushing buttons. It works automatic, and it works really good.

Yeah, a wet Sena after a few hours in the rain is unacceptable, especially late in the year 2021.

I use an el cheapo Cardo Freecom 2+ for over 13 hours (and battery still going strong), and half that time in the rain. No complaints.

All these devices will be basement box junk before the end of the decade.
I have the Cardo Freecom 2+ as well and I like to disable bluetooth on my phone when connected through the cable. The 2 times out of 10 that it doesn't work seems to be the music because I can hear the beeps as I go through the bike menus. The music status bar is moving along like it's playing but I hear no music. If I go into the bike bluetooth settings and turn it off and on again (IT Crowd) then the music kicks in after a few seconds.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm using version 3.1 firmware on the bike and version 3.6 on the Freecom 2+. Maybe Honda will release an update that sorts it out.
Thank you for your help. I've ordered the Bold duo set so will have a play when they come along.

The Cardo website states the following for connecting to the bike

"In order to enjoy the best experience when using a smart system in parallel to a mobile phone we recommend connecting the unit in one of the 2 ways described below:
1. Use a latest model Bluetooth 5.0 equipped smartphone with a capability to be connected to 2 different devices. Connect your smartphone to both the bike system and the Cardo unit directly.
2. For all others, bypass the smart dashboard system by connecting both phone and the bike system directly to the Cardo unit (one on each channel) without connecting the phone to the bike system."
Thanks for the info. I whiteboarded it to help visualize. Method 1 will have no control interface from the bike. But I will try method 2. I’m currently using method 3.

There is another method similar to the first one except you don't pair your phone to the bike and use a USB cable instead. This way you don't rely on Honda's intermittent Bluetooth connection and the handlebar controls still work through USB to your phone. However, you need to hold the back button on handlebar controls for about 3 seconds to bypass the warning message about pairing a headset. This explains my problem, probably got it right a couple times without knowing. But finally got ALL functions to work then tried again without success. Hadn't changed anything so I called Cardo. She didn't even know what android auto was an no one else that could help, worse she tells me I can't use all three(phone, android auto,Cardo edge) together. Thankfully found this thread after that nonsense with Cardo, did the simple setup and tried. Nothing! Deep breath, try again and magically works.

I tried al lot of combinations ,but it never crossed my mind to pair my phone as 2th phone.
my bike is now paired as bike and my phone as 2th phone . nothing is paired as 1st phone.
I now have sound when using the phone .
Briljant, thanks a lot!

Hi, hope you're all well. I have the same issues with the Cardo Packtalk Edge.

If I connect the phone to the Cardo, and the screen to the Cardo (in TFT screen mode), they both compete and the screen don't connect to the Cardo or the connect app doesn't find it.

When I noticed this, I deleted the connection between the phone and the Cardo and nowadays, I have the Phone connected to the screen and the Cardo connected to the screen as well.

I think this is the best method, but I'm not sure. If I use the app, I lose the possibility to use the bike's handlebar buttons, If I us it connected to the screen, I lose the ability to manage the unit via the app.

What do you think about it? In this case the Cardo has the option to connect to Phone, Motorcycle TFT or GPS, don't have phone 1 and phone 2 connections.

Best regards!

For me i have the following set up and works 99% of the time

Phone connected to bike - i used a Quadlock Wireless kit so have wireless Carplay - used to use USB connection
Cardo unit connected to bike TFT as main connection (Phone 1 i think it shouts when i connect)
Cardo unit connected to Zumo SatNav as GPS connection
Phone connected to Zumo SatNav for live traffic updates can also answer calls and stream music if the bikes carplay is playing up.
