Sharing my journey for a new 2024 ATAS ES ride and I hope the information is useful.

Picked up the new spanking 2024 Africa Twin Adventure sports ES (mouthful every time trying to research some parts..) from the local distributor in sunny Singapore.

It cost about USD39K new here. Yes, you did not read that wrong. We are one of the most expensive cities in the world. The tax structure is nuts here, we pay about 100%+ on the value and another est. USD7500 for a piece of bid paper (COE) for you to be entitled to own it. Feel free to read it here: LTA | Vehicle Tax Structure and LTA | Certificate of Entitlement (COE)

I am half a century old, so that is how long I took to save for this. LOL.

Here are some of the negatives I experienced..

First ride, first visit to the pump. And I found out that the tank rim was rusted.
Distributor says after i signed off, warranty does not cover rust. 🤢For brand new, picked up on first day.....
They relented and said it would be reported to Honda Japan and requested for a tank swap, have been waiting for 1.5 months, nothing yet.

Next thing, was looking for a way to route cables for future camera and lightings....and this is what i see behind the head lights...

Rust..the silent enemy of bikers. Again brand new...I just bought a rust bucket for a lot of hard earned $$$.
Same story, rust is not covered, nothing they can do as it is part of the frame and cannot be replaced, etc, etc.
My only hope is WD40 and hope the frame holds up for the next 10 years.

So guys, please check for these issues if you buy new. I would have rejected the bike if I saw it at collection. Bring a long a torchlight, it will be helpful. I knew there were rust issues in the past for the AT/ATAS and I thought they would have managed that for the 24' versions...

Now to happier things and stuffs done so far.

Headlight protection, we all need it against flying rocks and pebbles. Got this off some China maker. Fits on top, but not the metal adapters below. Had to use double sided tape for the bottom. Spray painted the top adapter white to match the bike.

Next, fitted Hepco hand guards, sprayed them white to match the pain job too.

You will need a really enormous Allen key for this, i had to especially buy one for this install. I can't really recall the exact size, but i think was a 12mm.

Next up is the center stand. For 2024, it is a new stand for the ATAS ES as it sits lower. 08M70-MLN-EQ0. It could be a different part number in your area.

Anyways, pulling the springs was the hardest thing in my life. broke the tool, tied the stand with shoe laces and went to a shop to get it done.

Con'td..

Broke the tool for pulling the spring.

Honda should just include the center stands for the ATAS, its just so useful for maintenance and long term parking.

Up next is the quick shifter, super easy to install after watching a few Youtubers. Super useful upshifting without clutching at fast pace. Again, should have been included with the bike.

Now, the quite tedious install of crash bars. I decided to go for Hepco after reseaching the entire available range. Because it is stainless steel and they have updated the top bars for the 2024 version. Wanted to try touratech as they were stainless steel as well, but the top bars are not ready yet for 2024. I think the 2024 ATAS have slightly wider fairings compared to the previous 2023. My local weather here is high humidity and lots if rainy seasons hence that Stainless decision.

Installation on the bottom was a breeze (sort of), you need tiny fingers for the center part of the installation and two person will make it work better. becareful of dropping a collar from the skid plate on the left side. I found the piece and took me a while to figure out where it came from.

The top bars should have been easier if not for the original 14mm center nut for the bars to connect to. You will need a lot of strength to crack loose the nut or a pneumatic wrench. I huffed and puffed, kicked and screamed and went back to the shop to get it loosened...o_O

On a side, I want to get deflectors but not sure if the previous design fits as the fairing design has changed. Every day here is 35 degrees Celsius and the knees gets most of the heat which could be unbearable at times riding through tunnels. If anyone knows, please advice. Thanks!

Luggage wise, I went for the SW motech DUSC 41L case and 33L with pro carriers and adventure top plate. During travel, I will use 2 cases on the side and normal riding days, just 41L as the top box.

Now, the next installs would be the smail horn, cameras and lighting. Till the next time, hope you enjoy the read! Cheers!

Hi Sean, Thanks for the great post and all the 'heads up' contained therein. She sure looks mean now with her headlights treated like that. Sorry to see your rust issues, should be fine after you do what you're planning and you'll never be troubled or think about it again. I particularly like your top box. So many happy miles ahead of you, I've no doubt that she'll be ultra reliable where it counts as she's a Honda flagship after all  It is all ahead of me - I'll get the 2024 or 'possibly' the 2025 depending on a few things I've got happening. Fun times ahead for us all. Enjoy your beautiful thoroughbred Sean, you deserve it - Cheers from Sydney Australia.

Congratulations and welcome to the forum.

Jesus that’s a lot of cash to pay, makes me feel better about how much mine cost new back in April this year.

The rust looks like it might have been exposed to sea water and air, I wonder if it was out of its shipping container and left on a dock Somewhere?

Anyway I would be having a strong word with the dealer and importer.

Here in the uk they would never dream of supplying a bike in that condition.

Hope you get a resolution soon.

SO continuing with adding further stuffs...

Here is the added cams INNOVV K7 front and back at 2K 30FPS each. The installation was straightforward, did'nt have to remove the fairings but the top cover and sort of "worm" the cables in from the left side through the engine area and to the fron portion of the seat. By the way, I am using the Healtech Thunder box, so everything is neat and tidy and not needed to posi the ACC switch at all.

And done up the racks for the rear here. So I chose SW Motech DUSC cases , found the quality is good and very easy install. The beauty of this set up is that and case can be swapped from left to right and top to sides. So I'll ride with top case in SG due to mainly city ride and switch over to side cases when going for far rides. So I only have 2 cases to play around which is good enough for me.

I had the SW MOTEC cases on my previous ATAS 1000 DCT bike and loved them for their quality and practicality.

I am planning on getting some for my 1100, but after seeing yours, I’m a little undecided.

They look massive! You obviously have the bigger capacity version on the left hand side, but it does seem to make your bike very wide indeed?

Do you think you will have an issue with lane splitting on the highway?

Managed to find a small andriod auto device off aliexpress, about USD15. need a USB A to female USB A cable as the the dongle could not fit direct, otherwise would have been perfect. Will find a place to hide the dongle below somewhere.

Phone bluetooth to the dongle and that's it. It will ask you to pair with headset, but you can ignore if you don't wish to.

Another happy day.

Thank you for sharing Sean! Wanted the white but AD cited there is only grey version in the next batch. Will definitely bring a torch to check the areas where rust spots were detected next month, Oct. Cant wait! :)

Would you be able to share the link for the wireless android auto device you got? How is that device holding up so far? :)

Thanks for the sharing Sean.

Its really a shame Boon Siew (SG Honda bike distributor) is not doing a good job ensuring customers getting what they paid for. Guess we have to live with that.
I am still contemplating whether to pre order the DCT ATAS as they are taking orders now, will be around 45KUSD o_O at least! Not to mention, they only have the black color, no iconic white version.

Hi Lucas, yah..just have to check more diligently as the owner. Just was not expecting this from Honda as new. Anyways the ATAS is really fun and enjoyable. DCT so much more? SG are suckers for this, but no choice. The black is quite stealthy looking, but personal choice for me was the white, and white looks bigger:D. I think there will be a greay color for next year too.

So more info to add on and share..if you find that the mirrors are narrow, looking at your shoulders. You can consider these mirror extenders, cheap from Aliexpress again. However, do note, 2024 mirrors are both anticlockwise to lock. I made the mistake buying clockwise types..:cautious:. Both mirrors would not shift going 140-150kmh, slight vibration which is normal too.

And finally got to put on the Denali's S4 . I chose this because it was small and affordable, added with the 3-pos switch (Lo-Off-Hi). Cabling was somewhat the pain, i couldn't remove the side fairings without to remove the crash bars and I didnt want to remove the tank either. So i route it as painfully and slowly to see where it could fit under the tank. The design of the ATAS is very compact, so leaves very little room for add ons, so cable planning and management is really required if you plan to this on your own.

A friend at once glance, said it felt like Gundam and sent me the pic...quite similar colors though..lol :D

Just to report back, I think the fork deflector does work. Alot less vibration on the helmet going at speed compared to previous ride, and almost no splash from the fork area going through rain.

But now, I identified another issue, The seat. After 5-6 hrs of riding, it has become uncomfortable. Tends to slide you forward, and had to readjust the butt quite a few times.

Hi Pia, I did not take out the exhaust to install the upper frame bars. The left and right are bolted on the center bike frame near the radiator. There was difficulty but it worked better with two person, i had my son help me. from the manual it looks like this.:

I will try to take some pics this weeks for you.
