Currently riding from Larado Texas to Panama and I've pretty much stuck near Mexican east coast and Belize,I'm crossing from Rio Dulce Guatemala to El Salvador to hook up with CA1 Pan American highway through Honduras. Been on the road since New Year's Day and haven't seen too many foreign riders . Any itinerary suggestions? I'm considering route 3 through El Salvador

I don't know much about Guatemala. However if you are taking - or can take - CA 11 from Honduras into Guatemala, be sure to stop at Copan Ruinas. Absolutely amazing Mayan ruins.

Also, I would avoid San Pedro Sula. Regularly voted the most dangerous city in the world. Tegucigalpa is not much better. Both have a lot of gang violence and on an AT you will be a target for petty crime in the cities. The countryside and smaller towns are much better.

I know - I'm so helpful, telling you nothing about Guatemala!

I rolled right through Honduras. Less than three hours from boarder to border. Stopped for lunch at a family restaurant and met the entire family.border crossing into Nicaragua was abit problematic but got through ok and I'm now in Matagalpa Nicaragua and the riding is unreal. Passed tobacco plantations and coffee plantations. Two vises of mine...will definitely be stopping of for a few cigars soon. Next up Costa Rica!

I have been warned about the larger Honduran cities by Hondurans I've met in Mexico. So CA#1 it is! Actually the first time on this trip I've actually rode on the official pan American highway! Not what I expected. Less traffic than I would have thought and better scenery. Some truly heart breaking poverty stricken trash strewn parts but also some good things to see too. Just have to look through some of the other **** . Nicaragua is way different.

Route CA3 through El Salvador is the ride to take. Good road for the most part and elevation changes that will make you dizzy. Allot of the time I felt I had the road to myself. And then you meet the chicken bus on a sharp corner!!
