I made a half hearted warranty claim because of very little paint on my engine casings. Half hearted because I couldn't see them stripping the engine right down and replacing it, nor really would I have wanted them to. But neither me nor the dealer could get a paint code out of Honda so I took the bike to a specialist auto finisher supplies company in Newcastle. Interestingly, their special paint matching camera and software was unable to match it so they had to do it with swatch cards, and got it pretty close.
The first pic shows the problem area. I have already keyed this and in the process removed white powder aluminium corrosion (which was the whole point of this exercise). I have brush painted the area largely because, I couldn't see how to mask it properly but also because I think a spray wouldn't have got into the recesses which is where the paint was missing in the first place.
This paint is ordinary car paint so may come off with the engine heat. I will keep you updated. But the point is that you can get the paint matched if you find a decent company to do it (cost me £5 for a small pot of paint).

PS for some reason the photos haven't uploaded to the gallery. Will re-edit shortly

Yeah, good luck Mike. I hope the area survives a solid engine cooking.

Generally, when you flash your eyes at it, it looks good. Maybe once the area gets dirty everything will be truly blended.

I'm guessing it's a "Friday" bike.
Only in a couple of ways Todd. This is my second one and the first had 6 warranty problems. This has had none whatsoever other than poor painting in a couple of areas. And the rest of the bike seems very well painted compared to the last one. It's just one side flange on the frame downtube and the lower engine casing which is badly finished from the moulds as well. I knew that at the time of purchase and tried to reject it, but the dealer went looking for another one for me in his stock and said they were all the same.
In fact the bike has been so good that I daren't trade it in for an 1100 😄

update - after 5 hours of riding today, the silver paint seems fine 👍 so I will keep an eye on it but it looks like you don't need VHT paint for the silver engine casings - presumably because they are a water jacket and not likely to go above 90 deg c.
