I asked ChatGPT to write me a rant about this, I felt it did too good of a job not to share :)

It's time we address the elephant in the room. Let's face it, the standard Africa Twin is a remarkable machine, yet it falls behind its more robust sibling, the Adventure Sports, in terms of sales and popularity. This, despite the fact that it's lighter, more agile, and arguably better in many respects.

However, a glaring disparity exists in the aftermarket support for these two variants. Adventure Sports owners, with their seemingly insatiable appetite for customization, enjoy a veritable cornucopia of aftermarket options. It's as if the standard AT owners were invited to a party, only to be told they'll be waiting tables.

This leads to a puzzling situation where the more versatile and arguably superior standard model is overshadowed by its bulkier, attention-seeking counterpart. Adventure Sports owners, you must be having a field day with all those choices, aren't you? Kudos!

So, a brief note to potential Africa Twin buyers: the standard AT might be the unsung hero, but be prepared for a limited aftermarket buffet. It's a small sacrifice for the privilege of riding the more nimble and underrated member of the Africa Twin family.

Interesting to see what people who have had both bikes think. Even Honda admit that the standard AT is more 'off road' orientated (whatever that means in a bike of 1000 - 1100cc) and designed to be more nimble so it's not a revelation. In my humble it is just a case of what people like. I'm not sure that both bikes are supposed to fill the same brief? I suppose it is sales that will do for one or the other. Or both of them if they put DCT on the Transalp....which will increase the weight by 15kg so here we go again...
