I want to soften my bike up for square edge hits,, I have stiffer cogent suspension front and rear.. I want to go back to default since I have piddled with it.. I think the compression on the front is full in, 8 clicks out for factory settings, with about 12 clicks total, so Id have about 4 more to play with, what about the rear? compression is the one at the top of the shock, correct? So I want to soften it up, what is the factory setting for the rear compression? I want to start from scratch and go from there, Thanks!

For future reference by others that come across this thread, my Honda service manual for my 2017 CRF1000A specifies the following:

Forks
Pre-load: 5 turns from full soft [in other words, 5 turns closed from full open*]
Rebound: 2 1/4 turns from maximum position [in other words, 2 1/4 turns open from fully closed**]
Compression: 8 clicks from maximum position [in other words, 8 clicks open from fully closed**]

Shock
Pre-load: 7 clicks from maximum position (first click is "0" position) [in other words, 7 clicks open from fully closed**]
Rebound: 11 clicks from maximum position [in other words, 2 1/4 turns open from fully closed**]
Compression: 14 clicks from maximum position [in other words, 8 clicks open from fully closed**]

* to get to fully open turn counter-clockwise (anti-clockwise) until you reach the stop
** to get to fully closed turn clockwise until you reach the stop
