what's the better bar considering price, functionality, looks, etc...

The Crash Bar Thread!

10096 Views 64 Replies 24 Participants Last post by  wags
Ok so I'm in the market for crash bars for my 2022 ATAS ES 1100! At first I was looking at which bars looked better on the bike but now I'm looking for more functionality and protection! Price isn't a factor and I would rather pay for the bars then pay for the bike when I go down! Id like to make this the go to thread for crash bars and will have a poll for you guys to vote on what you think the best bars are. Please give your opinion and any advice you have for some bars. Myself I have been eye balling the sw-motech! they have a full protection package for about 1200 USD. its upper, lower, skid plate. some engine guards! its not the prettiest but it looks very durable! let me know what you guys have or want to get and any advice is appreciated!

if I missed any let me know and I will add them in!!

Thanks guys I'm looking forward to getting some protection on my beast during these colder days in the winter

What made you go from the 21 to the 22??
What made you go from the 21 to the 22??
I wanted tubeless wheels and if I didn't take into account the price difference between the AT DCT and the ATAS DCT then it was going to cost more for the wheels than it was to trade in.

I'm liking the feedback from you guys and I'm glad there are more selections than what I was looking at before! You guys are great, and I hope this thread will continues to grow with members experiences and will be of use to anybody who is looking for info on crash bars for their bike! Thank you guys I didn't think we would have so much info in such a short amount of time! Keep it coming!!
I wrapped my '21 AT DCT in AltRider stuff and it's held up through several falls -- both moving and not. Also dropped it in an inaccessible position in my barn one time and had to drag it out of the spot to pick it up. No damage (except a couple of surface scratches).

Very happy with them and the skid plate/luggage package so far. I don't intend to be their commercial, but it seems pretty good to me so far.

AltRider crash protection seems to be like military tank-strength.
@WaterBuffalo ...18 replies on crash guards...that's nothing ;)

... you should start the "oil / tyre thread" it'll be 18 replies per minute

Good choice @Baja Troy, and nice specimen.

I installed heed and pretty happy with it's cost to quality ratio. However now I would go for a more minimalistic option like mid/lower bars only.

I've always been a "you only have to buy it once" type. The pain subsides a few months out...and the protection lasts forever:LOL:.

The Outback remind me of these from when I was a kid.

Is there an adventure bike in there somewhere??
Yes, but I feel better if I bitch a bit, before I pay the money  (just in case "crash guards" fabricators are reading this forum)

I'm all about buying quality (where it matters) however I don't believe that wearing Klim underware is money wisely spent,...lately, the high sticker price doesn't always guarantee the "last forever" quality.
But it also comes down to "how hard does one have to work"...for that $1500 bunch of ($200) bended metal pipe.

p.s. the mentality of buying top of the line, is getting our younger generations in BIG trouble, they were told (brain washed by media and commercials) that the $500 designer jeans are much better investment then the WallMart $19,99 pair of jeans, all conveniently paid by plastic cards, because nobody wants to be seen wearing WallMart stuff .

Me I LOVE my $9.99 WallMart shirts,10yrs and still looking as new , also love my "Brushed Aluminum" fridge, never knew magnets stick so well on Aluminum...gotta give credit to marketing teams, they are masters of lying...and my Ford F-150 @$65K is actually cheap considering it's built with "Military grade Aluminum"...not just "any Aluminum" ;)
