I'm wondering why nobody uses the honda crash bars (light bar) for the CRF1100? They look good in the photos and seem reasonably priced. Are they weaker?
Two reasons I didn't go with them, well maybe three.I'm wondering why nobody uses the honda crash bars (light bar) for the CRF1100? They look good in the photos and seem reasonably priced. Are they weaker?
Useful to get to the key differential. Two reasons I didn't go with them, well maybe three.
First they are stainless which although good for corrosion resistance don't go too well with a matt black bike.
Second they are not that cheap when compared to the Heed or the AS3P I have used.
Third they won't give the best protection but having said that neither will the AS3P ones I have.
SWM is a skidplate? Was on an adventure training course and there was another ATAS there as well. Much better rider than I I might add. We both had a tip-over on a challenging maneuver on dirt where the bike took a full weight drop onto the bars. No problem with my Heed, but he actually had tank damage with the OEM "Light Bar". They are rubber mounted so no damage to the bars, just the tank where the bars flexed into the tank. He also had a moving high-center on his and the Skid plate flexed up on the left side and the edge of it cut the case like a meat cleaver. Not good. I pulled mine right away and replaced with SWM with a cutout for my Heed mounts. Pay me now, or pay me later. I prefer prophylactic action!
ALT Rider has uppers that don’t require lowers & mids.Having read through the whole thread, I have a question: is there an option for the upper bars only? I have the SW Motech skid plate (sans bars) installed and was wondering if anyone makes an upper bar that doesn't rely on the lower bars for mounting. Thanks in advance.

So, does installing crashbars result in more handling difficulties ? What about the extra weight ?
Thank you all for your advices.
Take care.
Heed bars on mine, not a problem at all.Hi.
Could you let me know the impact of mounting crashbars on the overall handling of the bike ?
This is my first trail, coming from sports bike, and I dropped it two times in less than a year. That has never happened to me before.

If people in white coats show up they need to run awayI emailed this to HEED, we'll see what they say
I would choose the Bunker Black instead of the basic ones. Why? The extra protection and the looks maybe.I've been thinking crash bars lately as a spring purchase for my 22 AT Standard. Then stumbled upon this thread. I've decided on the Heed crash bars. But I can't decide if I want the "Basic" Black (fuel tank coverage) or Bunker Black (fuel tank/lower engine coverage)? About an $80 difference. I'm not looking to go crazy off road at my age, but I really like the looks of both. Which would you choose, and why? Thx!
Pulled the trigger on the Heed Bunker Black today...... pictures once they arrive and installed.I would choose the Heed Bunker Black instead of the basic ones. Why? The extra protection and the looks maybe.
My Heed Bunker Black crash bars arrived today. Amazing, 5 days shipping to Po-Dunk Nowhere, Ohio USA (population 4,000) from Poland. Fricking amazing. UPS came through for once. Can't beat that! Hopefully I'll have them on next week sometime. Better pictures to come.Pulled the trigger on the Heed Bunker Black today...... pictures once they arrive and installed.
Nah! I did it myself, several times... I don't say an extra pair of hands is welcome😁I was going over the installation directions last night before I went to bed. Heed recommends a two person team for installation. Is this correct? Asking any other Heed owners how there installation went. I do have another local mechanically inclined friend who could help so I'm covered. It does look like another set of hands would be beneficial instead of banging up my tank/engine trying to do it myself alone. Thanks!
