What “basic” selection do you use?

I know that was not directed @ me but....
I got a 18 ATAS and even with the throttle by wire it is jerky but here’s the funny part, it’s only a little jerky when taking off and trying to go slow, if you are already going and slow down it’s much smoother

That’s probably true. I tend to think more in terms of slowing down and then making slow speed maneuvers. But I do find gravel mode to be much smoother and less snatchy than Tour or Urban in those situations. Jury is still out for me as to whether or not the G button in combination with any of those modes makes a difference or not.

That said, I do find it all around less jerky than my ‘16 was with the cable throttle. No throttle tamer option for the ‘18 - ‘19 models, but want to see if it smoothes out my wife’s ‘17

Firmware firm wear, we can all agree that it is firmware! But the firmware is the way that t is because of governments and emissions, not because manufactures don't know how to program it.

That is why the ATAS is perceivably worse than the 1st gen, the poor 2020 1190 doesn't really have a chance in the real world. Twenty percent more displacement with the same power output, all to meet the new emission standards. Not to give you 20% more performance!

The problem is the same with new vehicles, the have a lot of new content but the drivetrains? Oh my the current generation of drivetrains leave a lot to be desired,

Funny thing, all of the OE's switched to small bore turbos in the name of emissions. Along comes VW and the diesel scandal so we start doing real world emission testing, come to find out the small bore turbo fours are dirtier than the previous V6!!!!!! They get too hot and thus are not able to manage the tailpipe emissions like a cool running V6.

Off my soap box but gentlemen really, we are on the cusp of every new machine (for the normal guy) being about something other than driving enjoyment, and that is sad.

I would have to disagree - yes I admit that emission and environmental controls have to be taken into consideration BUT explain to me why it works so well in “sport mode” and looking at the pole most of us seem to use that mode. Drive mode pretty much sucks. Unless you’re saying “drive mode” is there just to pass emission standards and that sport mode won’t pass those same standards (?)
I’m just saying that personally I would EXPECT different shifting patterns for different modes like say “urban’” I would expect longer hold time’s with lower to mid rpm shift points (hold the gears a bit longer at lower rpms) when in stop and go traffic I don’t need to be into 6th as fast as I can. Tour mode I would expect shorter quicker shifting getting you into into higher gears quicker for the faster more open roads and the best fuel economy. Instead we really only have TWO different shift patterns - Drive. - and. - Sport. All the different modes do nothing but give you different presets for “P””EB”& “T”
I wish they would of had different shift patterns but they don’t so really Honda would of been better just to have ‘D” & “S” and quicker easy access to the “P” - “EB” - “T” as “modes” instead of urban, tour, etc. BTW they really should of made the User Mode a bit more user friendly you should (when in user mode) just be able to scroll down right to the P-EB-T settings to change them (the whole point of user mode)


Yea,yea I guess were all being a bunch of premadonna’s here... kinda like someone giving a free 100$ bill and then complaining about the edges being bent up or it being wrinkled....

Real world example - there's a small roundabout on my way home. Its one of those mini suckas where 1st is too low and 2nd is the gear of choice. My ATDCT herky jerks its a$$ around it every time and no amount of throttle manipulation is gonna help. Its just a fact that motors can't be tuned to be optimal at both low rpm and high rpm. It annoys me no end.









I feel better for getting that off my chest. LOL

Yea it’s the little things - yea some would probably argue that you can always just run it in manual but that’s not the point, it kinda needs like a “sticky” feature in auto where it will REMAIN in the gear you put it in unless there is “X” amount of change in RPM or speed, that would be a good “feature “ for Urban mode (going back to my shift timing rant)...

OR - an optional clutch lever? Surely thats possible?

You would think so, I mentioned it back somewhere on this thread... a DCT with an “clutch by wire’ one that would operate the clutch in use and or both clutches

Well so far it’s pretty much as I thought - most riders (at least in this pole) are using “sport” mode. Not surprising tho, considering it is the mode that offers the most common/comfortable shift pattern (timing). It’s not like “Drive” mode is useless - it’s just less used or useful in most average driving conditions, I’d say....

On the contrary I very rarely use sport setting, over 12k miles it's definitely adapted to my riding style.

Oh I’ve used it too, but for most of my riding I don’t like/want the short shifts and to be in 6th gear at 35mph jerking along..

With a few more miles and experience you'll understand how you can ride around this.
Interesting, so you are saying that you’ve found a way to stop it from automatically shifting into 5th gear at 35mph in drive mode. Cause so far the only way any of us (that I’ve seen) to stop it from doing this is to use sport or manual.
Like I said, in places where the speeds are 45mph or better, yea drive mode is usable. Granted doing 50mph in 25 & 35 zones would be a “ride around”....
