What are your thoughts on the AT tool box? I think its a good idea but wondered what tools you get and is there any room in there for other stuff/tools. Is it easy to access?

If it really is that much of a pain to get off, might it not be a good location to put things like spare keys and a credit card and things like that on a long trip in a small dry bag? Not sure the average thief would even know to look in a 'secret compartment' like that.
Agreed, just put them below the seat, the tools fit there too.

There is also a huge amount of space under the pillion seat for stuff , put the stuff you don't need regularly under that (10 mm socket needed to remove)
I haven't seen a AT in real life yet so you just taught me something. If it isnt waterproof then I see your point.
Neither have I. I have never ordered something so expensive without actually seeing it first!

Does anyone reckon there is space for a pair of tubes under the seats?
HI Jason , you can fit a thin front with all the tools needed , either under the pillion or riders seat , (I carry a front only that can be used in the back if need be . ) and patch , solution and CO2 "bombs" . I'm sure you would actually get a front and back in there

Ive just tried to rummage through the tool kit again and agree it is pretty poor, once you open it up and take the measly selection of tools out (there's not even a spanner for the front and rear wheel nuts in it! wtf!) you then need a degree in origami to get the tool pouch back in the plastic holder! and nothing else will fit in it. I also flapped the battery cover up and its well fiddly to get to the terminals! hopefully I wont need to ever remove them! tight as a nuns you know what! so now got some sockets in the top box for any such requirement. I think they would fit under the seat though so that's where I will move them to. But it would prove useful for keys and credit card as a secret compartment though as already mentioned.
Still lovin the bike though now on 220 miles!

When I finally get my Africa Twin one of the first things I will fab up will be a tool tube. It will be a must have piece of kit. I like to mount it here as on my KLR. Please forgive the KLR picture on the AT forum, but we are talking location not specific brands. By mounting it low and forward of the CG it helps balance all the clobber I add on that is behind and above the CG. I don't have the bike yet so I don't know if the 4" tube will fit. I have also built these in the 3" size. The 4 " will hold a good compliment of tools. The access is "right now" even in the dark.

Not every day you see a bike with a ladder so you can climb up to the seat. Must be tough riding a bike when you're 3 feet tall.

Interesting idea with the tool tube, but you'd have to check very carefully that your tyre wouldn't hit it on full deflection. Don't forget that the fork tubes flex a bit, and the tyre will end up further backwards than happens with just removing the fork springs.

Good place to add weight though. Some of the rally guys add a compartment to the front of their bashplate for spare water or oil, or even plumb it into their oil system for extra oil capacity.

No Its a pain to get to, I have a ratchet strap in there to lift the back wheel in place because its so friggan heavy trying the lift it up with one hand while sliding the axle in with the other. Its a perfect size for a ratchet strap you can also use it to tow a bike with and you dont care if it gets wet down there. The tools you need to put under the seat or in a tool tube or bag. You need to carry a lot more tools than is in the Honda tool kit anyway and tire levers/ spoons for the axle nuts/tube change are not going to fit in their either.
Im tempted to stash a GPS tracker in there tbh.
Doesn't seem to obvious a stash hole and nice and close to attach to battery if needed.
I think also the tool box solution Honda have given us is lousy, never mind the hassle of getting access to the battery terminals. I would think about getting a flat plate and removing the tool box completely and just covering up the battery with it plastic "hinge".
Moved the tools to under the seat and the box awaits some useful purpose for the moment.
Regards Landy
I like the idea of stashing a tow rope/ratchet strap in there as your right there's only enough room for one and hopefully you won't need access to it lol!!!!

Mounted Touratech toolbox:

https://touratech-usa.com/Store/Toolbox-for-BMW-OEM-Pannier-Rack-R1200GS-ADV-All-Years

on Givi PLR rack. Required some creativity to mount it, but with handful of washers it was fine - survived 10k trip to Italy and Alps last summer. Enough room for 1L of emergency fuel, straps, extra tools.

One might consider new Givi product S250 too:

Nice option even if they are a bit more money.
I purchased my Africa Twin two weeks ago. This morning was the first time I looked at the tool box. The tool box was empty, and the only tool that I received with the motorcycle was a flat head screwdriver in the owner's manual case. Is there supposed to be anything included with the tool box? I am kind of thinking that the dealership I bought the motorcycle from forgot to put the tools inside of it, or they just permanently "borrowed" the tools.
Sadly that's about normal for the "tool kit"

The only tool my bike came with was a 5mm allen wrench and I believe it is under the seat.

Picked up my bike last week and looky here no toolkit. Rang the salesman who said oh sorry forgot to give it to you. If you didn't get one ring your dealer. One thing I didn't get was the document bag for under the seat. Dealer said he has never seen one on any of the AT s he has sold. Would have been handy to keep manual in. Did anybody out there get a document bag?
Nope - B4Bear - no document bag.

My 2017 DCT AT came with:
A 5mm Allen wrench clipped into the seat.
A POS phillips/slotted screw driver, a helmet lock cable (that does not work with my ratchet clip helmet) - both in a POS plastic bag with velcro, so not even remotley water proof.
The Owners Manual came in a really thin zip lock bag, also under the seat - but again, too thin to be useful.
Document bag is only flimsy plastic, I have put the books in a poly bag and then into a Ziploc bag, this works fine.

Tool kit is next to useless, buy a compact kit or make up your own.
