US deliveries

Went to the Minneapolis Motorcycle show this weekend finally to see the AT in person. AWESOME! Honda had a bike you could sit on and try the DCT, although not a great example, it was nice to see how it felt shifting. Amazed I could barely feel the shift, wonder how it will feel under load?

The bad news, one honda rep said my pre ordered AT could be as late as JULY DELIVERY!!!! WTF??? AHHHHHHH Please be May at latest as other sources say!

Seems like these ought to be 2017 models.
I have a trip planned for July on the Africa Twin, so it would be really annoying if I missed that!
You might arrive on your trip before your bike. >:)

lol... well I think I've just agreed a sale on my other bike, so pretty soon I won't have a bike to do any trip on, and it's a long long walk to California!

Seriously, they can't really make us wait until July can they? That is absolutely ridiculous... come on Honda, get it together! :|
Latest from my dealer...

Bikes will start to arrive in May, with more to follow in June, then more to follow in July. But Honda don't yet know which ones will be the May bikes, which ones will be the June bikes and which ones will be the July bikes.

What's the betting that red DCTs are the July batch!
I'm in the same boat, except I have another bike - my Varadero. Sold my VFR to help pay for the new bike. In Canada, little information about bike accessories or prices or any of the possible delivery times. So I have financing ready for a bike that may arrive in March, April, May or June and even possibly later. The dealers here have also said they aren't sure which type of bike is arriving when. I'm hoping the manual rally red is the one at the top of the list so I get mine as soon as possible. :)

Typically a nice deposit ensures you're first in line ;)

Keep us posted on how things go.
I've come to the conclusion I'm not going to hold my breath. I have a trip planned for April 7th another in May and another in June and if the AT is here I will use it but if not I will just use one of the others. I am having a hard decision with luggage, soft or hard, Honda or other, I just don't know yet but it looks like I'll have plenty of time to decide.

Wow, a July release date?? :surprise: What could possibly be the justification for that? If it's in good enough shape to be released all throughout Europe and the UK, why would Big Red hold back on us so very long?

I know... all rhetorical questions nobody can probably answer (but if you can, please do!) but still... that just doesn't make any sense. Unless total order numbers are way down here in the States, and they want to get a better backlog of orders first.

Does any fine reader out there have any actual insight as to why this might be?

Honda reps... are you trolling us? Reading this? C'mon... throw us a bone!
My guess is that the demand for the bike far outstrips supply, and they think it'll be less annoying to customers if they delay delivery to a whole market rather than run out of bikes in markets that already have them.

But really, July is ridiculous. Waiting the winter months in much of North America isn't too great a hardship as riding days are few and far between anyway. But missing May, June, maybe most of July when the sun is shining? That's much more annoying! By the time I've got it through the running in miles and added the accessories I want, the riding season will be more than half over!

Honestly, part of me wishes they just said up front that the US wouldn't get the 2016 bike, but would get the 2017, then I could have planned accordingly.
What's your source 2Sun, If you don't mind me asking?

A couple of weeks ago, Honda USA told me that they didn't know when they were getting the bikes themselves, and so the dealers certainly won't know anything yet, was their response.

That rang true, because none of them had a proper clue about available colors, they all said totally different things, which were supposedly factual! Two dealers simply made crap up which lost them my business immediately!

When my order was physically accepted by Honda, like everyone else I presume, my dealer wasn't given a delivery date. If Honda US themselves knew, you'd suspect they'd actually advise the dealer in same, right?

On average, I'm lead to believe (from my dealer principal anyway) that Honda typically deliver to the shop within 60 days of the order. If that were true of the AT, it could mean first batch arrivals anytime between now and late April.

I presume you have an order placed 2Sun? If you don't, then the advise could be sound? Because you won't be getting a bike from the first batch, that order window closed.

It's all supply versus demand I guess. I ordered a new car in December that won't arrive until at least May. the waiting isn't fun, but is still kinda exciting!

Does anyone know if the Matte Black version of the AT will be available here in the US? I know that there are white and red multicolor versions but supposedly, there is a black version out there but don't know if it will make it to the US.
Maverick my dealer ordered my AT last week and on his order sheet were only Red and Silver, we are assuming the Red is the Rally (red white black). Both standard shift and DCT are available either color. I think the black is on the Canadian site and I think your transmission choice may limit your color choice. Check it out

Captain Scarlet, my dealer checked with his Honday rep yesterday and they said pre-orders would be arriving in batches in May, June and July. He also says that even when Honda does send out delivery dates, they have a habit of 'asterisking' the delivery date on new models which means the dates are subject to last minute change.

I suspect that there will be some people in America riding Africa Twins in May. But I also think they're likely to deliver less popular versions like the silver one first. So I may be pleasantly surprised, but I'm guessing I won't get my red DCT until July now.
Fster, Thanks for the link! Looks like I'll wait to see what colors are offered for the 2017 US models.
I suspect that's right 'anotherbiker'. Honda told me only red and silver bikes (DCT and manual), with the silver one's being the first to be delivered.

I hope there are red's in with the silvers in the first batch delivered, and I'm speculating mine will arrive in May.

But unless we're given specific dates, it'll still be a lottery. Oh well!
Captain Scarlett - I was just reacting to sybjer's original post that started this thread, in which he talked about a July release date . It seems like every time somebody gets into this particular subject, the potential delivery date offered gets further... and further... away. I have no real information of my own.

And to that point, the manager of our local shop, who was recently promoted to regional manager, is a friend of mine, and our two business do business together, so were on pretty solid footing with each other. He said he has NO real idea when we'll be getting our bikes, at least for Arizona. Honda apparently told him "spring", and that is it. He then joking said, "Technically speaking, when is the last day of spring? June 19th? Then that might be the day!" And that's all I know.
LOL 2Sun!

That's what I mean really. Until us NA riders start hearing news from our dealers like "It'll be here on Thursday" then it's all hearsay or speculation.

Nothing wrong in either, but realistically, we've all just got to be patient. Like Italian bikes, they'll arrive 'when they do'! ;-D
