Vancouver BC - Because we're friendly, us Canadians

Sorry, it doesn't appear that the regional section is very organized, so I'm just posting a story.

Friday night, I'm riding home on my first commute from work, and doing a dipsy-doodle around some traffic on some back roads. I'm coming to a stop sign on a quiet street, and I sort of hear yelling. Mirror check, and I see what is clearly an ADV-bretheren, with the height and the additional lighting.

We end up having a great chat in the middle of the street, waiting at the stop sign. He's not a member here, there (ADVRider) or anywhere, but was super happy to see another AT on the road. Now, they're all over here in BC so I'm surprised he was so excited, but there you are. Nice chap!

It's definitely worth doing. We did a ride from Colorado to Victoria Island to Nanaimo. Then road through Whistler, Jasper, Banff, Glacier/ Watertown Park and home.

Great riding, beautiful scenery. :)

Sounds like a very meditative ride.

It was a great ride. I need to get back over to Victoria for another Wheelies T-Shirt. Mine has umm.. shrunk a little since then :)

Lol
I finally met a local AT rider...
I got a text from a fellow coworker asking WTF Where are you ? A local with a AT same year and color as mine was parked outside the bar my buddies stopped at thinking I was there cause they seen “my bike” parked outside it. After a few texts and selfie’s they finally believed me .
I did eventually make my way to that bar and meet the other AT owner, great guy, we occasionally go out riding together and I unfortunately act like a hooagain and soon loose site of the poor kid in the dust behind me, then feel terrible about it.
Poor riding habits, off-road, on my part.
I grew up riding with hoonigan’s and old habits die hard,,

Heh, heh, probably doesn't need to be a kid. I'd probably be eating the same dust.
Drop me a message if that is the case - I live in Calgary. I can give you some local ride information.

Vancouver Island.

There is a great partly dirt route from Victoria to Nanaimo that almost nobody rides. Makes a couple hour highway trip into a fantastic overnight camp trip.

Wrong province, but well worth the wait once you get there.

I see ATs all over Vancouver, but always parked. I can't recall ever seeing one under way.

What do you think that's all about?

How did they get there?

That's good to know for next time. We just took BC-1 N. We were with a group and mixed bikes, even though my wife and I camped while most stayed in hotels. I am familiar with Goldstream Campground, but not the dirt route or any of the others on the island.

But next time we will probably go back by ourselves.

Yeah Oil-berta which is close enough. Great photos, that’s exactly what I’d like to see. @InedibleRider this may be it’s own topic but how did you shoot those photos...cell phone or something dedicated?

I just assumed it was an elaborate marketing campaign

The Island is a bit finnicky to find good wilderness access due to some historical nonsense that left most of the land in private hands. But, the handful of great routes it does have are well worth the effort.

All cell phone, edited a bit with Snapseed. I gave up lugging a SLR around once cell cameras became good enough for print.
