Just had my rear bearing replaced at 24000km

I did not expect them to be shot and it happened during a home tyre change. When I put the wheel back on and did the play test, was more lose that I felt comfortable with. It still rode OK but the play bothered me, I took it to my mech to have him make the call if I was just being paranoid about the amount of wheel play, and he immediately diagnosed the bearings are gone.

+20,000km is quite normal for the africa twin.

But he did add a caveat: the Honda africa twin is a bike that is either ridden as a tourer exclusively onroad, or taken off road often and ridden like a dirt bike.
The difference bewteen these 2 riding styles make an enormous difference in the expected life of all sorts of parts on the bike, not least of all, wheel bearings.
