Hey guys,

Anyone upgrade their springs (front & rear). The stock springs are way to soft for me and my riding style. Wanted to know others experiences and or suggestions for a 220lb. guy.

Thanks :)

Thanks for the info.

In my research I did see them and two others that are a direct fit. Can I ask you why you went with K-Tech? Was it previous experience with this manufacturer, quality, price, other members feedback? Did you do it your self or have someone install for you?

As you know it is a significant investment and usually a one time deal so I hope you understand the questions. Thanks for your help.

Mainly the price, if I remember correctly they were cheaper than RaceTech and others I looked at and the quality seemed good, and the rear spring was red :D. I did the install myself because I like to work on my bike but I did need to invest in some special tools for the job. Overall not too bad of a job (with the right tools) and getting the shock in and out was the hardest part (take the rear wheel off!). I didn't do any valving and that is beyond my capabilities anyways. If money was no object I probably would have just sent it all out and had everything done but that gets very expensive. The springs are a fair easy and cheap option and made a huge difference especially in the front end as the fork springs are way too soft IMO. I am a bit heaver at 250lbs so really a must if you like to push the bike a little harder, well worth the time and money and if you can afford it the valving I am sure would help as well. Lot's of discussing here about all this stuff. Let me know if you have any other questions and good luck. I am not that familiar with the sport model but don't you have the ES suspension? Isn't that all electronically controlled and no need to change the springs?

i upgraded the rear shock on my AT with Ktech spring for a 250 lb rider and it was well worth it. i have Hyperpro progressive spring in the front end and so far, I am not loving them. I did not install Hyperpro progressive spring in the rear because the shock linkage already has a progressive increase in spring force simply due to the geometry. I have used Hyperpro suspension on other bikes with great results but for our Africa Twins, I think straight rate springs from companies like Ktech and RaceTech are better.

For the front end on my AT, I decided to spend some serious coin and buy the TracTive X-TREME Fork Cartridge Kit (-20mm low). I have not installed them yet. I decided to get the lowering option because I will not be riding off road in challenging conditions. I also bought a lowering link for the rear. It is better to use a lowering link as opposed to buying a shorter shock and I like the Ktech rear spring anyway. Tractive makes some of the best suspension components available and it is not necessary to spend that much to get a significant improvement. I know the folks at Cogent Dynamics recommend trying straight rate spring upgrades in the forks for a lot of their customers. They told me the valving in the 2020-on Africa Twins is decent enough for many folks to be happy with just a spring upgrade.

Ohlins also makes a front fork cartridge upgrade kit and Cogent sells it but I think the Tractive cartridges are a bit better. Some links if you want to learn more about two of the better vendors and their offerings:
