I liked that ring thing as well, but that caused even more trouble with wireless charging as in "not a chance." So, more often than not I would forget to put it back in.

No doubt that the Quad Lock case is better than the Apple Bumper Case. It is actually really similar to the Spigen Rugged Armor Case and similarly priced. The Quad Quad is $5 more, probably for the mount. It is the mount hump that messes with wireless charging though.

They are a decent case, but maybe not what Flossy Carter would rate "slamboy certified" :)

The Spigen Rugged Armor does protect the side edges of the display slightly better than the Quad Lock, but top and bottom are really similar. It wouldn't surprise me at all if turned out that Spigen made the cases for Quad Lock.

Edit: speaking of which, is if just me or do the Spigen Gearlock and Quad Lock universal adapter have more than just a passing resemblance [emoji848]

Rokform has a similar system to Quad Lock, with the 1/4 turn lock. The cases are more heavy duty, but the motorcycle mount system not as fleshed out as Quad Lock. I used to have their cases for my iPhone 6 and 8. I haven't tried to mount a Rokform on a Quadlock disc, but I am guessing it wouldn't work.

I have noticed it messes with wireless charging but for me it doesn't really matter. The only wireless charger i have is in my truck and its useless anyway. Not even sure why they included it... You cannot use Carplay or Andriod auto without the cable plugged in so that completely defeats the purpose of wireless charging since cable plugged in = charging.

I wonder how they get around it with their wireless charging options?

I realise this is slightly off topic to the original question but seeing as we are talking cases. I put my iphone in one of these and have never had it overheat. That said, I live in the UK so temps rarely get above 25c; Ultimateaddons Tough Waterproof Phone Motorcycle Case Mounts

I like the shock absorbing inlay (I bought the black version as green was a bit distracting), the fact it is 💯 waterproof, and can also be attached to the AT’s narrow crossbar. TomTom App is £16 a year, with traffic updates, and it works a treat.
That is exactly what i used to use back in the day. I liked it with the exception of having to remove the bumper case every time i put the phone in it.

I would say that is the only drawback, that and the earlier models had fragile clips that broke. I am lucky enough to have a spare iphone which sole purpose is for navigation - the benefits of not upgrading and people offloading their old phones on me 😂 . So It makes it a little less hassle on/off the bike.

I don't believe that is true of Android Auto anymore. Admittedly my car does not support Android Auto, nor does my 2019 Africa Twin, so I haven't tried it. But new Android Auto versions do include a "Wireless Android Auto" mode that only requires the USB cable for initial setup.

You could also set up a Bixby Routine that "If Driving" and "Connected to "Cardo Packtalk Bold" or the Africa Twin head unit (or some similar If argument) then "Fast Charging Off," "Super Fast Charging Off," "Fast Wireless Charging Off." Those charging settings will prevent the phone from fast charging and won't generate as much heat. The downside is that if you are using a tracking/GPS app like Revit, it likely also won't keep up with charging on a long ride.

If you are referring to the wireless charging issues with the Quad Lock cases, the problem stems from the "hump" used to connect the phone to the Quad Lock disc. Wireless charging is so tied to proximity, so that gap caused by the connection hump is a problem.

Has Quad Lock gotten around it? In theory, it should work because it connects flat to their charging unit when attached to the disc, eliminating the gap the hump causes with traditional flat chargers. In reality, reviews seem mixed where I have read owners complaining that it works seldom to rarely, one even complaining that it frequently discharged their iPhone 11. So I have stayed away from it. Too costly for the mixed reviews.

Apple supports carplay over wireless as well. The trick is the vehicle itself has to support it not just the phone, same as Andriod auto. My specific vehicle a 2019 RAM requires either to be plugged in via cable for it to work. My wife's new car on the other hand supports wireless for both.

Gotcha. I am guessing those wireless conversion dongles like Carlinkit are also hit and miss as to how well they work.

I just got my Carlinkit today. Plugged it in on my 2021 ATAS and it worked right off the bat. Brilliant. No delay detected although takes about 15secs to connect. I'll mount the dongle under the fairing and dispense with my lightning cable. Very chuffed.
@zedcrf How did you connect carlinkit to AT? Even i got one but having difficulty in connection. Did you connect Phone -> Carlinkit -> Honda screen or Both phone and Carlinkit connected to Screen?

I am asking this because, Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, especially the phone toggle switch will not work if you want to switchover to main screen. For example, when on car play if you pull phone toggle switch, main screen comes on and after that if you want to go back to navigation on car play, it will be disconnected. Hope I explained properly.

It will be very helpful if you explain how to connect this device.
Thanks in advance.

Edit: I was able to connect it successfully but the moment I use the phone toggle button to come back to main screen, it disconnects. Ideally when I press that toggle button, car play screen should come back. This feature works fine when wired cable is connected.

Rakesh

It´s a bug , you have to push "enable" on carplay pre menu or for go back in carplay flipping the switch on the other side ( front) to active SIRI and than click on one app on carplay.

Thanks @Ghostrider.1127 for the reply. Can you please clarify below items for me?

1. Have you connected your phone to motorcycle or just to Carlinkit to motorcycle and phone to carlinkit?
2. Can you please clarify what is "one app" on car play and which button to click?

Sorry for asking too many questions. Thanks in advance.

@Ghostrider.1127 Not sure if you have already done this, there is a update for Carlinkit and once done the toggle functionality works fine. You can toggle between Car play and main Honda screen using the toggle switch. It’s a perfect setup now.

cheers,
Rakesh
