I searched the Forum on this topic and most of the threads are dated and I'm sure there are better options now in 2022.
Google did not help as there are way too many "Ads" and real Ads and people promoting their YouTube vids.

What are your honest recommendations based on what you have worked with?

Short list:
  • Denali
  • Cyclops

Please chime in.

Just to be clear, when I said
intercepting signals and acting on them
I am meaning that the ezCAN is only reading the signals and is not altering them in any way or sending signals to the bike so it is not interfering at all with the bikes CANbus.
All actions taken are from ezCAN to aux equipment you haver fitted (lights, horns, heated gear, GPS etc) and the bikes CANbus signals are only used to inform the ezCAN when it is to power lights, vary brightness, switch on heated gear etc.

Similar to Denali's SmartCan ?

That video is comparing the old ezCAN to the new Denali CANsmart
Not a very good comparison seeing as how the ezCAN in the video was basically an old version.

Hex were on here asking for volunteers in the UK to develop the Sahara for the CRF1100, only once it was released then Denali released their different coloured version. Biggest difference between the two is the colour and text but also the Hex ezCAN doesn't come with wiring harness but rather just pigtails for making your own harness and if you want a harness you have to buy it as an extra, Denali comes with a harness.
So which is better? neither really as they are one in the same, support may be fractionally better for the ezCAN as you will be dealing direct with the manufacturers/inventorsbut time zones may also play a factor in how quick you get an answer.
For me buying without the harness was better as it meant I could make my own cables up to exact lengths for the routing I wanted to do and no excess plugs or joins etc. For people not comfortable with making their own cables up then I suppose the choice will be down to which is easier to buy in your location and which works out cheaper. For example the Denali comes with wiring for a set of lights and a sound bomb horn, if you don't want a horn then basically you are paying for the harness that you likely wont use although you may be able to repurpose it for a different accessory.

Here is the thread with @StephanT talking about the upcoming Sahara.

Many thanks to all who have helped. I really appreciate it.

Well, canSmart is out of stock; so, even if I want to buy it, I can't.
Got the ezCan from Hex Innovation.

Now, for the hard part of buying & assembling the rest of the lighting parts ...

Instead of getting one of the usual top choices for motorcycle aux lights I went with lights from Morimoto because I installed them on my truck and was really pleased with their performance and quality. i got the yellow combo pattern lights which are a blend of fog light and driving light pattern. The following link explains all:

I wired mine using a plug and play Africa Twin Eastern Beaver 4 circuit wiring harness and a generic fog light harness on Amazon. The Morimoto lights are price competitive with Denali, Squadron Pro and other high quality aftermarket moto lights. If you get them on sale, they are significantly cheaper. Their lighting performance is at least as good and probably a bit better. I am really happy with mine.

Running cheap Chinese $40 lights they are amazing. AliExpress just connect to the battery and clip. If you wreck off road just get a new pair $40 and you don’t need to rewire everything because they have clips. The only thing you’re not sacrificing is the $$$ for expensive lights. Mine have lasted through lot of rough terrain.

Just completed the installation of the Hex ezCAN and it wasn't all that bad a process.
The pain comes when I am trying to route the wires to the actual peripheral devices. That's when fishing line and flexible locking wires can alleviate the frustrations.

Wow, the Denali Soundbomb is, indeed, a loud horn. The beauty of it is that with the ezCAN, I do not need to touch the OEM horn and with the press of the horn button, the signal is picked up by both horns over the CANbus. Having a CANbus on a bike made life a lot simpler and predictable.

Can't wait for my SW-Motech light mounts and the extension cables to arrive for the aux lights.

Thank you, @Hood, for the fine recommendation.

SW-Motech Light Mount arrived early and I have mounted them.
Migrated the D7s downwards and they look much better.
