Hi guys. A few days ago I bought a brand new 2025 Africa Twin Manual Standard with 0 miles, or so it seems.

Shortly after picking it up from the Honda dealership in my country, I noticed that the handlebars are misaligned to right, and it's very annoying.

Then, on my second day of use in the city, shifting gears, in second gear, when I engaged the clutch, the engine suddenly cut out! I had to restart it with traffic behind me. After a few minutes of idling, I heard a slight misfire.

A few minutes later, I started hearing the clutch lever or its stem make a clicking noise every time I squeeze the clutch. I hear the same noise when I release the throttle everytime. It clicks all the time and it's annoying. I don't hear this annoying noise on any of my other bikes.

It also makes a strange noise in the engine compartment every time I press the clutch. (Please watch video)

And finally, almost always when I start the engine, it cuts off by itself; I have to start it twice.

I'm very upset and disappointed. My previous secondhand 2017 AT didn't have any of these problems.

I'm going to take my motorcycle to the dealership, but I doubt they'll solve my problems since this dealership doesn't have a very good reputation. Unfortunately, it's the only Honda dealership in my country.

In short

- When I start the engine, it almost always cuts out. I have to start it twice.

- The handlebars are very misaligned.

- The clutch makes a clicking noise, and the same noise is heard every time I release the throttle (it started on the second day of use).

- The engine suddenly cut out once in traffic, and I heard a small misfire twice.

For being barely 3 days old, the bike is full of problems. I don't like it. I am not at all happy with my purchase
The dealership has bad reputation regarding claims and warranty and I don't think they'll fix any of my problems. I'm going to take it to them tomorrow.

G'day,

OK, there is a lot to unpack in your post. First off, sorry to hear that you are having issues with your brand new bike. That is always frustrating, especially if you feel you will not get the dealership support you need.

I personally come from the mind of thought that I can do better than most of the dealerships sadly. I know I "re-work" a lot of maintenance done by dealerships on my friends bikes.
So that is to say.... if you put your bike on a stand and or you can just do it with help from a friend. Loosen the clamps on your handlebars, the bolts that tighten the risers (the heads are under the top triple clamp) the pinch bolts on the triple clamps, as well as your axle pinch bolts. Then twist and straighten the whole front end till your handlebars are straight. Tighten up the triple clamps and the risers and handle bar clamps. Get the front wheel off the ground, spin the front wheel, and apply the front brake quickly. Do this two or three times, then tighten the axle pinch bolts. Your front end should be nice and centered and the wheel centered where it has no binding.

As far as the idling and cutting out... Could you have bad fuel?

The clicking on the clutch and throttle... I would look at it when off the bike, activating the clutch and see if I could tell what was causing it to "click". Sometimes it is as simple as the clutch cable adjuster being in a position that binds slightly. If so, you definitely want to get that adjusted so it doesn't wear the cable. But either way... you should be able to see, where it is "clicking" and go from there. Same thing with your throttle.

Good luck and yes I understand warranty etc. so definitely bring to dealer and let them know and have them fix it if they can. But if they are incompetent, maybe you can resolve things yourself?

Sorry about your troubles. I think dealerships are getting worse and worse. I can't comment on the engine cutting out but as far as the handlebars, that is normal. You can adjust using the method @Hood suggested. What helped me with the bars is getting a 1 piece top clamp so that the handlebar stems are not independent of each other, but instead connected to the handlebar with the single piece top clamp (can take pictures later if you want). I also got rid of the rubber washers/bushings that connect the stems to the top triple. I replaced them with some metal washers/bushings that fit exactly in the same space. This helped a lot and I don't notice the bars being off center as much. Besides the coolant reservoir location and removal, the handlebar and flexibility of the handlebar (not straight) are some less than ideal designs by Honda in my opinion.

Good luck with getting your bike straightened out. I hope the dealer takes care of you.

I just went to the Honda dealership in my country.

As expected, the personal who asked me washed his hands of it, saying all the problems were normal. That the clicking noise it makes when you squeeze the clutch and release the accelerator is NORMAL, when IT IS NOT (said that the noise click when releasing the throttle is the throttle body) . That the bike shuts off because I have to use 100-octane gasoline (which is only available in a few places and its very expensive). On my previous 2017 AT, I used regular gasoline and never had a problem. The tilted handlebar is the least of it; the noise from the clutch and accelerator bothers me quite a bit. In another thread, I read that it could be a faulty solenoid. I recorded everything the guy told me and I'm going to file a complaint with Honda Japan if they don't resolve the problem. I have no hope with this crappy dealership in my country.

It doesn't make sense to buy such an expensive motorcycle (I paid $19,100 USD) only to have to pay for repairs elsewhere a few days after I first rode it.

Last year, I took my 2017 AT in because of a noise it was making when the bike stopped, and the same dealership told me I had to replace BOTH BRAKE DISCS. But in the end, my brother-in-law solved the problem; all I needed was to grease the steering head bearing. You can see how trashy the Honda dealership is.

Stories like this make me appreciate the Honda pros in my community.

I'd like to thank the Honda dealers in Columbia and Dechard, TN, USA. Their sales department quote only MSRP + Honda freight for new, current year Hondas. Their service department is impeccable. Also, they stock all the Honda products I need to keep my Honda motorcycles in good condition. Never had an issue with a purchase in 35 years.

Its not only the clutch noise, the throttle has the same "click" noise everytime when release. My AT 2017 dosent have this annoying noises, my another CB650 2024 it doesn't have these annoying noises either, and neither does my Yamaha Tracer 9

This other user also complained about the noise his throttle makes, and was told it's something to do with the solenoid or something like that. I find it very annoying to buy a new, expensive motorcycle and have to listen to annoying click-click noises all the time.

Check your battery cable make sure it is tight. Look at the linkage for the clutch. Do you have a center stand ? If so make sure the chain is at the right tension otherwise you will hear the chain smack it occasionally too. Mind you really this is all 💩that you really shouldn’t have to deal with, but it seems like you have a 💩 for brains dealership you have to contend with

You still never mentioned wich country you are from?

Its not normal whats happening, and i really cant imagine that in the western world this could be accepted.
Honda has got a service department, and they can lead you to a dealer that knows how to handle these complains.
You do have (at least i guess that its worldwide) a Digital service record.
Thats where you can keep all recorded.

Hope you can work it out with another dealer, otherwise contact Honda itself
For the US as an example

After 4 days at the dealership, I picked it up today, and the bike is EXACTLY the same.
It's still making those annoying click-click noises all the time when I press the clutch and release the throttle, and the handlebars are still misaligned! I'm tired of it. I had no hope in this crappy dealership. And it's the only one in my country

I don't want to have anything to do with the bike or this dealership anymore.
I'm going to put the bike up for sale (I'm sure I'll have it for many months) and I'll complain about these sellers. Next time, I won't buy a Honda anymore, I'll go for another brand.

I've got 11 Honda motorcycles currently in my garage. Never had a warranty issue with any of them except on my '23 ATAS. Had a fork seal leak at 3000 kms, and the TFT stopped responding to touch after the first season. My dealer warrantied the fork seals, changed both sides as well as brake pads in case they were contaminated. Replaced TFT screen and Honda extended the warranty on that piece for another 10 years.

I've put 26,380 kms on it since and it hasn't given me a lick of trouble, and those kilometers include 2 trips to the Arctic Ocean on the Dempster Highway in the Yukon and Northwest Territories, and one trip to the Arctic Ocean on the Dalton Highway in Alaska. I'm close to 10,000 kms off pavement alone. Just wore out my third set of tires, 2 sets were Motoz Tractionators. I fkn love this bike. Maybe 2023 was a good model year :)

Yeah, I'm a Honda fanboy. Proud to be one.

For OP.... Take a watch and see if you can remedy the issue yourself as suggested previously. If not, as stated, someone will get a great deal on a fantastic bike that just needs a few minor issues easily sorted.
what fantastic bike??? LOL
you got to be kidding, premium honda motorcycle and we're are supposed to fix bent handlebars of new bike???
:D
