Save yourself a fortune and do what they used to do in the old days.
One lad sits on the bike and revs it while somebody else knocks holes in the Silencer (muffler) with a hammer and a big nail. Once everybody agrees that it's noisy enough then job done. Has exactly the same effect as one of those Akrapovic things but is much cheaper.
Now you tell me! Wait, I could pound nails into my Akrapovic...

Less weight, possibly slightly less back pressure, more emissions.
All cats are not created equal, I guess, but when I had to replace one on my pickup, I could see right through the honeycomb structure inside. So my guess would be "no restriction on flow". Not sure how much gain any weight savings is going to make, either. And now we're left with "extra emissions".

Besides the general looking better, less weight scenarios do these bikes benefit much from replacement to another exhaust system or is it generally more of a "heard power gain" as opposed to actual wheel power gains?
I too wanted to shed some weight from my AT and maybe gain a bit more power, so I acquired an Akropovic slip on muffler. Sure it sounded a bit better...BUT, it was too **** loud especially at highway speeds. I'd get a headache. This was just before I went on an around the USA 6,500 mile ride, thank goodness I went on the trip with a stock setup. So I sold it to a local guy who loves it. I'm staying stock and I like it that I have a catalytic converter, as I'm not stinking up the environment. That is my experience.

I was happy with my stock exhaust on my 2018 ATAS...that being said, I opted for the Akrapovic slip on...really mainly for a sharper quality sound...made a HUGE difference on the open road...really opened the bike up. My 25k dealer checkup however mentioned the bike is running lean bc of it mainly as evidenced by the plugs. I'll be getting a Power Commander to complete the system

Silencer change on a 4 stroke is almost always for sound or looks.... if someone has some concrete dyno evidence of significant performance increase (not just trace amounts) as a result i'd be intrigued to look at it..... staying stock on mine. The only time on 2 wheels i've ever seen differences in true performance from exhaust change is head pipes on my 2 stroke moto bikes....
I had the same question. The dyno chart here is unreadable but the switch seems not worth it to me for 3HP. I also find conflicting claims about weight difference which seems to range from 8-13lbs. Hope someone else finds the info useful. GoodFabs launches exhaust for Africa Twin

Following! Weight savings ain't enough to make me wanna swap mine out
Me neither, not on a 550 lb bike. And I prefer a quiet exhaust on this bike since I plan on extended rides. It was a different story for my dual sport: the weight savings and power added were substantial enough to make the sound penalty worth it.
