I think it's finally time for a new helmet. What are you guys using, and would you buy it again?

I run 2 helmets.....the commuting helmet is a HJC Rpha 91, the weekender is a NEXX X-Vilijord. (Which needs a clean!)

Nothing I try negates the peak vibrating on the NEXX at 'motorway' speeds. When I'm out for spin it doesn't bother me or matter, because I'm never in a rush, but it does become tiresome if I'm travelling cross country for work. Its a quality helmet, the only annoyance is that over time it scratches the top of it's own pinlock as you open & close the visor....which you really notice in the winter sun! Love the helmet!
The HJC oozes quality, is immensely comfortable, very quiet & doesn't suffer buffeting at all with my set up. So....its the workhorse for commutes! Great helmet!

I have the Rpha 90 and due to replace next year, was thinking about the 91 and intrigued by their claim that the new mechanism helps reduce drag/buffeting when in the up position - your thoughts?

Thank you Hood 👍

Just like you the peak slightly wobble.
You can choose 3 positions, high, medium and low.
The low is too low, it hinders the upper vision a little and vibrates a little more.
The amedium vibrates less, you can see it a little wobbling and this is the position I chose.
The high one is perhaps the best, it's the one where you can't see the peak...😄

Note that Schuberth said to have studied the aerodynamics of the peak in a wind tunnel. 🤭

I'm coming back to you to explain why I chose the Schuberth E2.

I have been using Schuberth helmets since the end of the 80s. At that time Schuberth manufactured helmets marketed under the BMW brand and since then I have almost only used helmets from this brand.

My other helmets are a C4 Pro and a Bell Jet.

The main quality of the E2 is silence and the main fault is the weight.

The installed sound system is excellent once properly adjusted.

I tried other brands like Shoei and Araï, known for their comfort, but I was disappointed.

Hood, how do you like your E2?

Here is some links (Dutch)

So far I am really liking it but have only done about 300 miles in it to date.
Peak still vibrates but it is just slight especially in comparison to the E1. I had to remove it from the E1 as it annoyed me seeing it vibrate, never felt it, just annoyed the heck out of me. so far the E2 peak is tolerable, time will tell.

E2 is quieter than the E1, not that the E1 was noisy, just the E2 is even quieter.

Comms seem good so far, I never use them as comms as such, just for Android Auto really but it seems to pick up voice commands better than the E1 system did, also Hey Google now works again, that stopped working with the E1 coms after an android auto update but the SC2 comms in the E2 works :)

I did prefer the location of the mic on the E1 better than the boom on the E2 but that is just something that will take time to get used to.

Alot depends on your head shape I think.

with my long narrow head, I find Nolan helmets the best fit and "some " HJC and "some AGV

but my Nolans are by far the best fit and comfort, quiet etc. Im not sure Id buy anything else now.

Lots of newer helmets can be adjusted via the inserts to fit different head shapes, the Schuberth E2 I just bought can, I have thicker cheek pads in mine but front, top and back ones are stock thickness.

If you are serious about your lid, use your head... Compare the safety stats...

I love my Nexx X.Wed 2. I live in Thailand so it gets VERY hot here and ventilation is important for me. Also I must have an built-in sun visor. Finally the helmet needs to be light weight, feel comfortable, be safe, and also have space for a coms system. This helmet ticks all of the above boxes at a reasonable price. I have the built-in Sena X-Com system which is placed so nicely that nothing bulky sticks out on the outside unlike other coms systems. Absolutely love it and yes, would buy it again!

I have a Shoei GT-Air 2 with the Sena SRL2 integrated Bluetooth headset and microphone. Before this I had the original GT-Air and an AraiGT Corsair. Overall I’ve preferred the Shoei. It’s a brilliant Bluetooth setup that I use with an iPhone mounted on the handler bar via a Quadlock. I’d only replace it with the new and just released GT-Air 3, or the Shoei Neotech 3. Only downside for me with the Neotec is the microphone boom when the chin part is flipped up, for good reasons.

it’s not integrated to the chin bar of the helmet. The reasons I love the GT-Air are:
1. Shoei proven high quality and standards.
2. Optional integrated Bluetooth headset made specifically for the lid.
3. Internal drop down sun visor.
4. Colour/graphics! - sometimes it’s as much about the look as it is the safety!

Depending on how square or round your head is, you can't go wrong with an Arai XD4.
