Seeking recommendations for tall rider mods.

Today I took home a new leftover 2024 AT base manual. I love the bike and I haven't had the chance to really wind it out yet as its going through the break in procedure. However, I did experience some lower back pain about 30 minutes into my ride home. I'm assuming its due to the seat/foot peg distance. Or the overall handlebar to seat to foot peg triangle.

For reference, I am 6'2" and I had the seat in the tall position. I think I will be in need of handlebar risers, a taller seat, and lowered foot pegs.

Any similarly sized AT riders out there that have a solution that works for them? I'm ready to spend some money to get the bike fitted properly to me and enjoy loads more miles.

Thanks.

Lower your footpegs only if your knees do not hugg the tank nicely when seated. On my 2018 ATAS my knees just came above the indentations in the tank, spreading my legs. Otherwise go for a higher seat.
Also bar risers is a no-no when riding offroad. The configuration for the AT is alrady good.

So I am thinking of the AltRider pegs, which have a standard height and lowered height install available.

Other than that, I’ve got the Seat Concepts tall seat on the way.

Why would you recommend against risers for offroad? Because they bring bars closer typically? What if I just raise them but not bring them closer?

It's funny...I'm 6'2" and have ridden my '21 for four years with only adding pivot pegs and rolling my handlebars forward about 2 mm for comfort.

I have crash bars and such, but those don't impact my comfort.

The only other thing I would maybe do is add highway pegs for really long mile-eating days on big trips.

I don't even hate the stock seat :ROFLMAO:

Yeah I might roll my handlebars forward a tiny bit. Somehow on the stock seat, I feel like my pelvis is being tilted forwards and I get lower back pain after about 30 minutes. I want the seat concepts rally seat more for the flatness of it rather than the 2” additional rise. I suspect with the rise in the seat alone, I might be fine without lowered pegs and handlebar risers.

The main reason I’m going with AltRider pegs is because they can be installed at OEM height or 1/2” lower. Trying to avoid handlebar risers as long as the ergonomics work out okay with riding off road standing and on road seated.

I’ve heard from some people that pivot pegs are amazing and alleviate a lot of strain since the foot can move more freely. I haven’t tried them, but I feel like I would prefer a solid platform for standing.

Thankfully I didn't have to mess with the stock seat that much... Got the Seat Concepts tall, rally seat in this morning no problem. Their seat pan is pretty good, but it looks to be custom made by SC. Not similar to the Honda in some of the structural areas.

Considering the Seat Concepts tall rally as well. 193 cm (6' 3") here.
How do you like it? Probably not enough time to properly test it yet?
Alternatively I might go for a Corbin, but the price + shopping+ tax + duty is dear!!

The Seat Concepts is worth the purchase for the pan alone. I still have a little bit of soreness after rides, but much less of that lower back pain I was referencing earlier.

The reason the Seat Concepts pan is so good is because it’s a 1 piece saddle. The way I see it, getting that 1 piece saddle is the best thing you can do. If the Sear Concepts tall, rally seat isn’t to your liking, take it to a local seat specialist.

It doesn’t matter what anyone claims for X, Y, Z brand. Nothing will ever be as good as a skilled, local seat builder doing up a custom seat for you on a pan you provide. The great builders will have the ability to use various density foams in various layers and shave it down to your exact needs. Then they re-cover it and typically have a wide selection of cover options/fabrics.

The short answer is, get the Seat Concepts and give it a try. If it doesn’t work out exactly for you, take it to a seat builder that will do miles (kilometers) better than any X, Y, Z brand will do off the shelf.

Just put in 130 miles today on the Seat Concepts tall, rally seat. The seat is much better than the stock 2 piece seat. I went for their standard foam and it’s noticeably more comfortable. That lower back pain that I was describing (likely from a mixture of the low seat position and hips rolling forward with the OEM seat) is greatly minimized.

Having had custom saddles in the past, I think I’ll eventually take the Seat Concepts pan to a builder to do a custom build on it. I’ll give it a few thousand miles to get used to it, but my suspicion is that custom will be much better for my needs.

I think 10-15 mm lower pegs will help. I’ll hold out for that modification as well before cutting up my seat.
