Folks this africa twin of mine ( adventure sport CRF1100 January 2021 ) will not be going off road nor any form of green laning
day trips and touring on tarmac
So what types of tyres should I buy ie not nobbly or heavy tread types as they, to me, are semi off road
Any input would be great
Wheels are gold spoked type by the way
Cheers for any feedback !!!
Hi Richard
I own the 2020 ATAS ES model.
After around 11 500kms I decided to change my tires, as the OEM Bridgestone Battlax (which was a 80/20 tire) was flat on top due to all my touring (straight riding).
I decided to replace them with the Metzeler Tourance Next tires (which are a 90/10 tire), as I have always liked Metzeler tires.
However, the was a problem with the front Metzeler, which gave me steering wobble at speeds from 50 to 70km/hr.
After trying all sorts of re-fitting & re-balancing, I was finally able to exchange them.
Long story short, I exchanged the Metzelers for the Bridgestone Battlax A41 (which is also a 90/10 tire).
My personal opinion:
The Bridgestone A41's warms up quicker than the Metzeler.
The A41's feel to me as if the absorb road vibration better. (Hardly any vibration through to the steering)
The A41's grip pretty darn good. After the first 30kms or so, I road my bike like i always do. Not once so far have I felt "uncertain` going into a turn.
I've always liked Metzeler. But for the Africa Twin, I would definitely recommend the Bridgestone A41 tires (if you're looking for a 90/10 tire).
That's just my 5c...
