When you get too decrepit to ride two wheels would you consider a side car, or something else?

Had a little fun visiting the lad in Peru, a couple weeks back. Decided that the road trip portion is probably best in 3 videos, maybe a 4th on ****** traffic survival tips in Lima! Pics courtesy of my son.

Poor little CB500x, flogged to the max:

Well Friends,

Felt like putting together the video on part 2 of this journey...

This was the leg of the trip from Barranca to Yungay, Peru.

Had a couple of roadside maintenance events that created a little angst, but were survivable. Overall, an excellent adventure in the "Then came Bronson" sort of way of fixing a bike with a chunk of firewood and a claw hammer.

Just finished editing the Huascaran Naitional Park leg of my Peruvian adventure with my son. This was the best part of the ride. 12 hours or so in the saddle, peaked at 4,735 m elevation, several beautiful glacial lakes!

@Beowulf , are you running a stock mono shock in the rear of your rig? If not, what ARE you running, and what shock/spring setup are you using on the hack? Also, how much weight are you typically running in the hack? I have a 2017 AT rig with DMC sidecar, and my rear suspension seems awfully soft, even fully preloaded. I'm running a 2WIN shock on the leading links and hack, but I think I need a heavier spring for the hack. Any info helps!
Thanks,

I'm running the Ohlins rear shock with a 120 N/mm spring that seems to work pretty well. The factory 95 N/mm spring was way to soft to get proper loaded sag.

On front I run custom TFX shocks that I had Ted Porter build at TheBeemerShop.com.

It took a while to get spring rates dialed in. I ended up with 45/60 N/mm progressives. Would swap them for 55 N/mm straight rate springs, next time I have to take them off.

Hack shock is a 46mm TFX unit, with i believe 60 N/mm spring rate. All the TFX shocks have HS,LS compresion and Rebound adjustment. That was a major upgrade from the ohlins shocks I was running in those locations.

This table shows weight. Spring rates shown in table have all been changed, per above commenrary:

Where do you ride? What type of riding?

I usually have about 70 lbs of stuff in the hack, but occasionally haul a passenger.

Do you like to weld? There are many improvements that can be made to the DMC sub frame and A arms that will increase its survivability and overall rig handling. I have broken mine in almost every possible way. It has been holding up well, though, since I added a center top strut and a whole lot more triangulation.

I tend to be out in the desert crawling over rocks and ruts, so put a little effort into suspension.😁
