Well cool. That falls solidly into the "things that I have seen, but didn't know that there was an actual name for" catagory :)

Hahaha, I've never heard of it and I can't even say I've ever seen it. You learn something new every day, right?

After a few thousand miles the tread in the center of the rear has worn to a smooth two inch wide strip.

there is plenty of rubber left, but the center grooves are worn away leaving essentially a slick tire for straight up riding. Sides still have grooves.

I would post a pic, but I’m at wor

I don’t remember it wearing like that on my BMW R1200Adventre.

So it gave good grip on gravel and dirt for the first few thousand miles. Not so much anymore.

I don’t think I’ll be buying these again.
I quite like these tires. Regarding that center strip, I have the same issue. My front is still good, my rear is also good but rapidly approaching wearing down to that center strip. I'm planning a 7-10 ride during the Australian summer and have pretty much convinced myself the rear will need to be replaced before I leave. Knowing that 150/70b-18 is the only rear tire with the center strip, will another TM rear size fit a 2020 ATAS?

for instance they make a 140/80B18 work? How would that affect handling?

I’ve just installed a set on my 2018 ATAS. Being based in Scandinavia, I’m a little nervous of the performance of the tires on wet and cold surfaces - I haven’t seen too many Northern European reviews.
But I guess time will tell.

I ride in Seattle year round on trailmax missions. We get occasional snow and a lot of rain in winter- just observe wet weather riding practices and you’ll be fine.

I just swapped my missions for TKC80s for the winter. I thought the missions were fine on wet roads. Mostly changed them to try out my new No-Mar changer.
