Jumping in a little late...
I've got the aliexpress extender on my my 2016, and it fits perfectly. BUT I know people here with newer bikes (not sure if 2017 or 2018), who bought it and it doesn't fit because of that little ball on the top of yours.
So it seems you'll either have to file down that ball, or file a gap in the extender itself in order to get it to fit.
Still sounds like a worthwhile deal to me...
Now that you've pointed that out, I can see where the ball can be a problem. Mainly because it raises the edge of the original plate. So the people having problems, I would suspect, is not with the bottom plate fitting the foot (which per our pics above is the same size), but with the top ring of the enlarger fitting over the foot.
Hopefully some bending or filing will make it work.

If not, you can send yours to me Gary, I'll make you a good offer :)

Yeah... that was my worry--not so much the ball up top but that edge that rises to the ball. It's hard to tell from the pics of the 2016/17 kickstand pads but that edge is probably offset back some, or thinner. On my kickstand pad, as you can see in the first picture of it above, that edge is flush with the outside bottom edge of the pad.

I figure 50/50 I can make it work.

But I have files. And a hacksaw. And a sledgehammer.

Took the plunge and copied you. Just ordered the below on ebay for £12, already painted in the colour I wanted. Let's just hope I receive it quickly and it fits. Seller emailed me right away with a thank you and asking to let him know when received and if any problems.

Received the kickstand pad extender today and installed.

“HTTMT- Side Pad Kickstand Stand Extension Plate For Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin 16-17 RED” - $16.90 (shipping included).
(Ordered from Amazon in red and arrived in 4 days). Picture from the Amazon page above in my previous post.

The description detail on the Amazon page reads 2016-2017 model years (thus my original concern), but the label on the package mailer references “16-18” and the Ziplock bag inside, containing the parts, reads “Honda CRF1000L 17-18.” Go figure. The extension plate came wrapped in small bubble wrap inside the Ziplock bag and a wrench and tape pad were inside the Ziplock. The main package is a bubble wrap envelope.

And it fits my 2018 ATAS perfectly well! See pictures.

It comes with the extension plate, a small Allen wrench and a piece of padding with adhesive on one side. I assume the pad piece (about 1” x 2”) is for between the kickstand pad and the extension plate so that’s where I put it—attached to the bottom of the kickstand pad. No instructions or paperwork came with the item.

The plate is made of aluminum and appears decently made and the fit and finish look nice.

It slipped onto my kickstand pad perfectly well. The rear end is flush with the back of the kickstand pad and the outside edge fits up snug against the kickstand pad toe. Three screws tighten and secure the plate to the pad. It’s nice and snug but I will be adding some Loctite.

I like the looks just fine, but more importantly, it more than doubles the contact area for standing the bike in mushy or soft spots and should work well in soft gravel too.

I cannot guarantee everyone is going to get the exact same item, but it appears so, and it also appears the seller needs to update the item description. The packaging clearly indicates through 2018 model year.

It took minutes to install. Works like a charm.

Here are some pictures.

Best, Gary

Edit: I placed the padding that came with the kit under the kickstand pad but as close to the toe as possible, figuring that would give me the snuggest fit.

Glad to hear it works and looks good. No clearance issues with centre stand or swingarm i see?

Still have about a 1/4 inch between plate and swingarm.

But I just went back out and tested.

If you kick the stand to the up position, the kickstand spring is strong enough that it does *just* tap the swingarm.

But it would take some serious gnarly riding to make it tap or to cause any knocking issues.

If it becomes an issue (but I doubt it) I can probably place a bit of rubber at the top stop of the kickstand (near the pivot) and it should fix any issues by stopping the kickstand just a bit shorter/ lower.

...

I'd be interested to know how close other extension plates are to the swingarm when mounted... on 2016 - 2018 bikes and various types of plates.

Seems to me, any extension plate is going to end up much closer to the swingarm. I've got just about a 1/4 inch clearance now.

Has anyone had issues with an extension plate tapping against the swingarm while riding? The kickstand seems firmly held in place (strong spring); I doubt it will bounce and tap/ knock against the swingarm even in bumpy terrain.

But an easy fix should be to simply stop the kickstand a bit lower by placing a pad at the stop. I'm going to cut a little piece of thick heavy duty tape as a pad and place it there. See what it looks like.

But this must be a possible issue with any year bike with an extension plate.

When you guys with different extension plates or plates on different model years let you kickstand spring up on its own, does the plate tap the swingarm?

Thanks in advance, Gary -- Just curious.

Problem solved.

Sorry for the multiple posts but I went ahead and cut a small piece of 1mm thick magnetic rubberized tape and magnetically attached it to the underside of the kickstand stop, cut to fit in the space there. (The tape is magnetic on one side and non-adhesive/ rubber on the other - I show a pic of the tape roll for those interested).

The tiny 1mm addition to the stop increases the clearance at the swingarm to 1 inch now (from the previous 1/4 in.). Plenty of clearance now.

The magnetic strip should stay in place just fine. But heavy duty 1mm thick (rubberized) tape should work just as well.

Seems to work like a charm and the kickstand in the up position looks just fine.

But more importantly, I can let the kickstand slam home and it doesn't come near tapping or knocking on the swingarm. And shouldn't come close in riding either.

Just FYI for anyone who wants or needs to do the same, Gary

Some pics... (first shows magnetic spacer with kickstand down, placed on the stop; second shows the spacer with the kickstand in the up position; third shows the additional clearance; and 4th shows how the kickstand looks in the up position; 5th is mag. tape). Peace out.

Nice fix there. When I started reading was worried about the kill switch in the kickstand but your method looks fine. Will let you know about clearance on my 17 but should be about the same.

Ps: that is a very clean chain! Haha

Thanks!

It's gotten pretty dirty but I try to clean it right after riding whenever I can, unless it's a quick ride on the road. Chain brush and cleaner and Chain Wax. I'm seriously anal about it.

(Just seeing that little bit of linty fuzz on the screw-head under the foot-peg has me crazy - couldn't see it before the close-up pic. I'll def. get to that tomorrow)!

Received my kick stand extender today, looks pretty good. I’m super impressed also, 8 days only to arrive from China. Will install this weekend

I'll be curious to see how close yours ends up to the swingarm with the stand in the up position.

I'll be honest though, with or without the clearance now on mine, the more I look at it I have to wonder if it might be a problem waiting to happen off-road... catch on something down low (with its fierce angles), pull the stand, the bike, me. It would probably fall off before any major damage to the stand etc. but it might mar up the swingarm in just the right fall.

I'm thinking of taking it off and just carrying a flat piece of sturdy plastic in my back pocket, maybe even fashion a sleeve on it for quick on/off when I need it. Or maybe get me one of those camel-toe stands... Nah. Flat piece of something thin and strong it is.

I'm beginning to see it as an over-engineered solution to an easy problem.

But let us know how it goes! Gary

Haven't installed yet as no time to do it properly and test.
But for me I'm not too worried because my off roading will be light duty gravel and a bit of dirt tracks, Nothing too hardcore so I'm not worried about things catching on it. To be fair, there's a better chance of things catching in your brake lines, rims, under the engine etc.
I am a bit more concerned about any tip over on/off road and it maybe hitting the swingarm or bending the stand more. But with the top box, crash bars and sliders, it should be okay. Rear pillion pegs will also hit before the kickstand does.

You'll probably be completely fine, so would I, in all likelihood. The chances of it catching on anything are pretty slim... but not impossible.

I'm more curious if yours slams against the swing arm when you kick the stand up and what you do to alleviate that.

Looking forward to seeing it on your bike, Gary

I'll just copy what you did if it does!

Installed it today, see my other post.
No clearance issue at all, especially once the bike it off the centre stand. Doesn’t come close to hitting when I put the side stand up. Very happy with it and smooth curved edge on the side facing road means unlikely to snag on anything. For me, it’s a keeper and the colour is great too. I parked especially on a patch of mud to test it today haha! #itworked
