Hi, can someone help with a top box plate dilemma, i have a 35ltr Monokey top box and looking to fit it to my ATAS but unsure if i can attach a rear carrier plate ( not yet purchased) straight on top on the frame work thats already there. If so, can you suggest which company is best and also the cheapest.

Hey Paul, welcome to the Forum.

I know a universal Givi-compatible MonoKey adapter plate will "adapt" to any of the Africa Twin model top box mounts. However, if you wish a perfect drop-in fit, then I am sure a member might chime in. In the meantime, there is a good chance it has already been mentioned on the Forum. It’s not clear what will fit/ what won’t on the ATAS 1000. I’ve 3 bikes & whenever I need a top box - I take my XTZ660. Totally ridiculous when I think about it

the givi kit looks a total nightmare to fit & I’ll probably bite the bullet & ask my dealer to fit in the spring aa I’m not risking taking back of bike apart incase get stuck

I searched and found a couple of threads about guys making adapters to fit their givi mounting plates.
Givi Trunk Mount/Rear Luggage Rack
Givi top plate and adapter mod

and then a bunch of threads about model specific top case mounts like this...
Givi Monokey Aluminium Top Plate

so, just so OP isn't misled, I stand by my earlier statement that the GIVI universal mounts (at least monolok and it appears monokey) does not fit the OEM rack and that you either need to make your own adapter plate or buy one of the model specific racks/plates. Unless someone can post otherwise with pics. The monolok cases come with universal mounting plate.

I've had this model too. This one shown might (??) be a lower weight capacity. They are all pretty vanilla.

An important note: None of the Givi-compatible universal adapters failed for me, nor did I have to adjust them after the initial installation. My top boxes get heavy regular usage (99 times out of 100 rides).

There are some confusing posts on this thread. Monokey has different top box fittings to Monolock. I think that the poster is looking for MONOKEY. I've got two Givi top boxes but my AT, which has a Monokey plate, will not take the Monolock box but obviously takes the Monokey box. I'm posting because I've known people to buy the wrong top plate for their existing box. My top plate was already fitting to my bike so I can't comment on the fitting of it etc but I hope that this helps.

DT thanks for taking the time to post this. Would have saved me a lot of time if I'd have watched it when I should have done. I've just checked and I've got a Trekker Plate but by now nobody cares...

I concur on your other point...the Givi Monolock box to me always felt a bit wobbly on my NC750X so I took it off.

It's worth clarifying that 2 mounting plates are sometimes needed, ie: the quick-release plate that comes with the top case + an adaptor to securely attach it to the tiny factory luggage rack.

The cheapest adaptor for my Shad top case was a $10 plastic kitchen cutting board from Amazon. Easy to cut & drill, completely hidden from view, very secure.
